Initial verdict? I haven't watched it yet, nor have i read anything after pg. 13
Much better than last week. In fact it comes close (keyword: close) to redeeming last week's episode to a subpar level. Best set up episode for a finale in the series.

I liked it better than last week, of course with a couple of nitpicks.

That was a good episode. Very happy to see that after last week. Only gripe is the way Richard went out. So what the frick was the point of his character?
But it also still shows how awful last week was. Last week really could have been condensed into flashbacks in a different episode.

Much better episode but we are at the point where we have to agree that several characters who received seemingly important roles in S6 should have just been scratched.
1. Widmore (his only real purpose was to bring desmond to the Island, this could have been done by Richard at Jacob's behest).
2. Zoe and Widmore's crew (see 1 above. she served absolutely no purpose except to give sawyer someone to chase around in the woods for no reason.
3. Ben (I hate to say this because I love Michael Emerson's performances, but as a character he really isn't serving much of a purpose. If Widmore isn't needed then Ben surely isn't needed because his only real motivation was to Kill Widmore, his adversary).
4. Dogen, Lennon, the whole temple jazz--self explanatory
5. Claire ( does nothing for the story but I feel like they may be saving her ALT baby story for something bigger)
6. Miles (all he really did was prove to everyone that Ben killed Jacob, not really that useful to the story)
7. Ilana (not buying that she had to "protect" the candidates. ridiculous. she ran around in circles and blew her self up. pointless)
Could have been a tight season had they interspersed the 23 AD timeline slowly over the course of the season to allow time for that story to truly resonate and for us to care about the characters. Too much running around in teh woods and meaningless characters doing things that served no purpose whatsover.
I'm hoping for a great finale.

I think they actually finally gave him actual purpose tonight. Ben is going to go out with a bang.

Sawyer: "And I thought he had a god complex before."
Great line from Holloway.
I'm with those of you who said this ep really improved last week's in hindsight. Like Godfather and some others I'm one of the few who didn't all out hate last week's, but even the issues I had were somewhat taken care of tonight.
Can't wait to see how it all ends this Sunday.

not saying they won't find a way to involve Ben in the final act, but its not necessary when you still have Hurley, Sawyer, Kate, Jack, Desmond, and Miles running around against MIB. Overkill

Yea, Ben's got to be thinking "WTF?" which is why I agree with you that Ben is leading MIB along and will not kill the other Losties.... at least I hope not.:)

Badly Injured 36% (883 votes)
He's OK. His Eyeliner saved him 32% (783 votes)

Saywer is going to follow Jack to the light, he's going to go in, become the new monster and he's going to be damned to the island just like the MIB.
last show, sawyer and jack sitting by the beach
and forever sawyer will try to kill jack bc he wants to get off the island
I kinda feel the same way.

Desmond is going to eventually destroy the island. He was brought back to the island for a reason - to save Penny. He knows that if MIB gets off the island, Penny and his kid will die.
Desmond knows this in the alternate reality which is why he is making sure everyone is "in the right place"...,Desmond has sacrificed himself for Penny (and the others) before and he'll certainly do it again.

Haven't read through this so I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but does anyone think that Whidmore had a weak ending to his story.
I was a little disappointed. That was the "reunion" I had been waitng for. I thought there would be more of a conversation between them. Almost was then fricking Zoe fricked it up. Dirty skank.

Thinking about it, I'm betting either Miles (although I don't think Miles and Desmond have ever met)
I can't be certain. But I figure they met in "The Constant". Nearly 100%. I still have it on my dvr so I can check.
eta: sorry, not the constant, but the episode before it. I don't have that one still dvr'ed.

last weeks episode was good, very good. Everybody complained about no answers and that there was not enough time left to give the answers needed. This week was a pretty big frick you to the people that bitched about last weeks episode.

I don't have time to go back and read the 15 pages that have been added since my last post.
Just tell me who is complaining and I'll show up at their door. Arab style.
I didn't repeat the joke. You're welcome.
