I could be wrong, but I think that was just the writers trying to create mystery about whether he was really on the plane.
When he shows up at LAX, talking to other passengers, I think he was on the plane.

Desmond's alleged disappearance off the plane is merely speculation based on him not being in the same seat anymore when Jack returned from the bathroom.

Actor playing MIB kinda reminds me of Clooney, which is a good thing. About the picture, that was the most exciting scene I had scene on the show up to that point, except for perhaps the cat fight in the jungle with Juliet and Sawyer, and the wheel turning.

Desmond clearly had a wedding ring on before he disappeared....he did not have that ring on when he got off the plane.
If it's not just a continuity error then there is a lot more going on with Desmond than we have seen so far.
