Well no shite, but didn't he say something before killing Jacob about all the years he spent following him, or something to that effect?
There's some talk about Richard bringing him instructions... but if that's the case... Jacob told them to kill everyone in Darma?? Really? And all that other shite he did over the years? If that's the case.. then Jacob is at least as evil as MIB.

There is far more to this than Jacob = good and MIB = bad
This much has become obvious. Another theory that was confirmed yet again was that:
If person follows the man in black, they essentially are the same person and have the same ultimate fate in the flash sideways (course correction). (See Sayid, Sawyer)
If a person follows Jacob, they are a redeemed person off the island and are free from their old fate. (See Jack, Hurley, Ben)

I don't feel like going back and finding the quote, but someone said that based on last night's episode, MIB doesn't lie. When asked a question, he tells them the truth.
This is not entirely correct. He told Sawyer to go to the Hydra Island to find a plane and talk to survivors, knowing that wasn't who was over there. Sawyer even called him out on that shite as soon as he got back.

He also lied to Claire about who had Aaron.

As someone said before, I think it's gonna be a three way war between Team Jacob, Team MIB, and Team Widmore.
I don't see Widmore being on Team Jacob's side and mass-slaughtering the people from Ajira 316.

ohh...I really where this is going

Jacob needs a replacement, he picks MIB, who in turn spurns the offering. A thousand year battle ensues till Jacob can find a suitable replacement?

That works except that it would need alot more explanation as to why MIB would kill off possible candidates.

Anyway, good discussion
To the poster that said this:

Im gonna watch it again and Im not sure why but I get this feeling that MIB may have been a candidate.
Stop trying to be smart.

But Sawyer is a con man in the original time line, and he is a cop in the flash sideways. He still has a vendetta, but it seems to me at least that he's doing the right things to rid himself of the hate, ie telling Miles about Anthony Cooper.

I think that was more of Ben's doing than Jacob.

MIB gave off the feeling that he doesn't want anyone (Aaron) to have to live like he has been living. This makes me think that Kate's dream where she was told to never bring Aaron back to the island was somehow manipulated by MIB.
When Richard says I've seen things on this island you wouldn't believe (or whatever it was), I'm praying that they flashback to those events because they could make some crazy shite up about the island that would be awesome. Either way, I just hope Richard tells some of the stuff he's seen.

At the end of last season (prior to The Incident) I was getting the feeling that there would be a third side to this but I could not figure out who the third side would be. I'm still not sure if there are three sides but I think it's possible.

Do any of you think that it is important that Kate inititated conversation with Flocke and his recruits (Claire, Sayid, Sawyer)? Noone spoke to her until she addressed them directly. Seems odd that no one would want to speak with her given all they have been through together.
Given that Dogan told Sayid to kill Flocke before he spoke, it seems that there might be something there.

where does Ben Linus fit in.
Ben's sort of in the thick of it all. The line is blurry on whether he was feeding his loyalty to Jacob or his desire for control of the island. It was whichever was more self-serving in his eyes at the time.
quote:yes, but not in the sense of Jacob vs MIB but rather enemies over who gets control of the island. I have a feeling they would be (well, not Ben anymore) equally as satisfied "serving" Jacob or MIB - it's all about power to them
It is clear that Widmore and Ben are enemies.

Do they become allies because of a common enemy?
it's possible we may see a brief truce and alliance, but I would not expect it to last more than one episode. Alex's death will trump that

Is it a 3 way war?
I think this is really more a Jacob vs MIB war. Everyone else are just pawns in the literal sense

Ben already said the most important thing to him was his power.

I really think he wanted the power more than anything. He admitted that Jacob never spoke to him. I think that Ben did what he thought Jacob wanted him to do, but in doing that he opened himself up to be influenced by the MIB (Zombie Locke).

I agree. IMO Widmore just wants control of the Island and is willing to go to almost any extreme to get it. He probably has some vague notion of who/what he is facing in the MiB, but whose side he is on may only be of secondary importance to him.
