And I don't get why so many people believe that MIB and Widmore are going to square off...seems to me they both have beef with Jacob.

Also could the MIB saying that his mother was crazy be another indication of Locke's persona shining through (like when he said "Don't tell me what I can and can't do")?
Hmmmmm.

Interestingly, Locke and MIB also shared another trait prior to Locke becoming MIB. Locke couldn't kill Cooper so he had to get Sawyer to do it for him. MIB couldn't kill Jacob so he got Ben to do it for him.

Get the bunch out of your panties. I swear some of you get pissy like a bunch of school girls when someone says they don't like an episode. I didn't like it. I don't think it advanced the story line as much as the episodes and I find Sawyer's story lines redundant and predictable. Can anyone honestly say, aside from him being a copy, that they were surprised by Sawyer's actions? I wasn't.

FYI, this is the first episode I have ever openly criticized so I am not sure if that counts as a "schtick".

It was definitely the weakest of the season, but it was a classic LOST set-up episode. Hopefully, it was cementing the main storyline in our heads so that the writers can do a big back-story show next week.

So while I wasn't thrilled about the episode, I understand its role in the grand scheme of things. Also, the flashsideways was not nearly as good as Ben's, Jack's, or Sayid's.

Yeah, I had the same thought. I was thinking they might team up. He was setting up those sonic fences, however, which makes you think he's not necessarily friendly with MIB.

It may have something to do with Aaron.
It seems like MIB may want Kate to raise Aaron for some reason.

1. He was trying to convince Kate to raise him in last night's episode (with the whole "his mom is crazy now" bit).

2. He was (or seems to be) the reason that Claire ran off and left Aaron in the first place leaving him for Kate to take.

3. There is the whole "Don't bring him back, Kate. Don't you dare bring him back!" dream that Kate had. That could have also been MIB.

I just don't think he or MIB would be that stupid to simply trust Sawyer.

richard aint' gonna shed anylight on the island, so don't get too excited...

he'll tell jack, it's not what it's seems to be...jack will respond with, well what is it...and richard will say, it's not an island

If you're going to post spoilers you could at least have the decency to say so

I have a guess that Widmore isnt 100% sure who MIB is/isnt - i.e. Widmore is on the side of Jacob and will fight against any of Jacob's enemies, but, unbeknownst to him, has been manipulated by MIB unwittingly. So, while Widmore thinks he has a friend and an enemy on the island, they are in fact, the same entity

It could also be that MIB and Whitmore know each other and are on the same side. MIB could have sent sawyer to make contact at the same time testing his loyality knowing that he could find out the truth.

Im gonna watch it again and Im not sure why but I get this feeling that MIB may have been a candidate.

the patio sized sonic fence would tend to lean away from that notion

ohh...I really like where this is going

Jacob needs a replacement, he picks MIB, who in turn spurns the offering. A thousand year battle ensues till Jacob can find a suitable replacement?

That works except that it would need alot more explanation as to why MIB would kill off possible candidates.

Anyway, good discussion

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned in Widmore vs MIB is where does Ben Linus fit in. It is clear that Widmore and Ben are enemies. Do they become allies because of a common enemy? Is it a 3 way war? There's really so much that you can speculate on with that combination. Especially since it has been unclear of who is right and wrong from day 1.

MIB doesnt want the job, all he wants is off the island. He's stuck and therefore wouldnt it be advantagous to him to either destroy the Island or allow a candidate to assume power who will allow him of the island? We dont even know how long he's been there. Im not married to the idea but it would also explain why Whitmore and him are at odds.

That fence is now and always has been bullshite. The smoke monster could just rip a tree up and toss it at those pylons and the old pylons and crush them.

Well if Ben was a devout Jacob follower all of those years, why would Widmore side with Jacob considering Jacob's people banished him from the Island?

He wasn't. He never spoke to Jacob. Not once. And it would seem that he was claimed by the MIB and turned evil long ago.
Why he was still the leader of the others, I don't know. The others, it would seem have not always been aligned with Jacob. Why would Jacob purge the Darma Initiative? Why would Ben have knowledge of summoning and using the black smoke monster to his own need?

There is far more to this than Jacob = good and MIB = bad, and what side the "others" are on. And even who the "others" are really composed of.

Well no shite, but didn't he say something before killing Jacob about all the years he spent following him, or something to that effect?
