With Miles and Ben; at last we heard, they were heading for the Dharma Barracks.

And is Desmond still in the well?

Probably.

When Richard, Miles, and Ben split up with Jack's group they were going to where Dharma kept their explosives so that they could blow up the plane.

Yea, Sayid told Jack where he was before he went out in typical Arab fashion with a bomb strapped to his chest.

He got hit in the head by a steel door that was being powered by thousands of pounds of water pressure. If he's not dead, he's superman.

We know he was still on the sub when Jack and Sawyer escaped and they needed oxygen tanks to get out.

Unless the sub sank upwards, I think we can assume he's dead.

I don't see how they can off a character like Frank in that way. What was his purpose in returning to the Island then, other than to pilot the Ajira flight?

Plus, he's a likeable character and the writers new it.

So Illana mentioning that he was a possible candidate is just a red herring then?

If he is dead, I'm gonna go on record as saying that he deserved a better death. Oh well.

Edit: I'm still leaning towards him being alive

Ilana never said he was a candidate, I don't believe. Maybe you're remembering the scene on the beach with the outrigger where Frank is knocked out, and Bram asks Ilana if she thinks he is a candidate. Then Frank wakes up.

BRAM: Why'd we even bring this yahoo?

ILANA: Because, we might need him.

BRAM: For what? He didn't know the answer to the question.

ILANA: That doesn't mean he's not important.

BRAM: What, you think he's a candidate?

[Ilana looks at Bram, then at Frank.]

ILANA: He's awake.

[Frank realizes that there's no use pretending, so he opens his eyes.]

BRAM: How long you been listening to us?

FRANK: Long enough to wonder what the hell I'm a candidate for. [He gets up with the help of Bram] Who the hell are you people?

ILANA: We're friends.

FRANK: So you smack all your friends in the face with a rifle, shove 'em in a boat, and kidnap 'em?

ILANA: Only the ones we like.

Seems a bit unclear to me

I thought it was a fitting death for his character. He died trying to help everyone escape on the sub so it was heroic to an extent. Not every character is gonna have a Charlie-type epic death scene.

It was better than Ilana's death, no?

Definitely.....I will say for some reason I was more surprised by Lapidus's death than Sayid's or Jin/Sun's. Even though Lapidus really didn't have much of a role left to play on the show other than making awesome snarky side comments when given the opportunity (but Miles should return soon to carry the torch for him).

No, because she went out in typical Arab fashion with a bomb strapped to her chest.

I'm not sure if MIB truly wants to "leave" the island. I don't think he ever intended on getting on a plane or sub, but used the idea to manipulate the O6. I think him wanting to leave is more spiritual/theoretical.

I think he doesn't need a physical mode of transportation to get off the Island. All he needs is for the remaining candidates to die, and he could probably teleport off of the Island at will.
