I was reading the script from the episode "The Man from Tallahassee", which was back in season three. Came across this interesting line of dialogue between Locke and Ben.
LOCKE: Where do you get electricity?
BEN: We have 2 giant hamsters running on a massive wheel at our secret underground cave.

I agree. It's very ironic that the one person (Jack) who wanted to get off the island so badly and led the rest in getting off the island, now realizes that Locke was right, there was a reason for each of them coming together on the island. I think Jack is naive regarding Ben but that is his MO in dealing with everyone; he looks for the good in all and seeks save anyone. Jack is now so desperate to SAVE his companions whom he left behind on the island, that he will follow even Ben's guidance because he realizes that Ben understands how it all works, that is the mystery of the island.
