So the candidates may now be ageless as well?
not necessarily
-Hurley can see dead people
-Jin can survive any boating accident
-and Jack has the power to make incredibly rash decisions at the expense of everyone else's life

He was at one point.

I think he thought he was while Jacob was alive. Has just now realized he wasn't.

I don't remember seeing him on the dial, but I do remember his name crossed out on the cave.

And I don't think the Monster thought that Ben would join him. He just wanted to deliver the message that they were on Hydra Island. And if those people on Ajira aren't scared enough, with a guy rising from the grave, their leader being shot in the face with a sawed-off-shotgun, one of the survivors leading a mutiny and abducting the pilot. They are in for a rude awakening next episode.
Not sure about that, maybe. Given the nature of MIB I rather think that he was expecting Ben to gun-down Ilana and join his team. MIB has been doing a good job of manipulating Ben so far; one more murder and all the better. But I can also see where he might use Ben to let the good guys know that the next showdown will be at the Hydra.
Speculation: The Hydra is an underwater station and Widmore is in a submarine. I wonder if there is a way for a submarine to dock at the Hydra station which will be the rendezvous point for Flocke to meet with Widmore. I would assume that the submarine is MIB's ticket off the island.

I meant to imply he was just a candidate. But Jacob did touch him right before he died. That may be relevant.

As Widmore no less.

A portion of the Hydra is underwater. Remember in "A Tale of Two Cities" (Season 3 premiere) when Jack was trying to hold Juliet hostage and then opens that door? And I'm not sure if the Monster can leave by conventional means since I'm pretty sure he would have done so by now. He can turn into a pillar of black smoke that can float in the air and go very quickly. There is something physically blocking him from leaving the Island.

Good point. I think it is absolutely relevant to Ben's change of heart and redemption.

Linus is #117
Could be Ben. Does this mean he has been touched by Jacob at some point? Edit: ok, maybe when he killed him
Any chance it could be his mom?

Richard explained his longevity as simply a gift from Jacob which was the easiest way they could explain it. But it still doesn't rule out a time-loop associated with the 108 minute button
The time loop theory depends on Richard being a time traveler. Tonight, he blatantly said he was not a time traveler.

Agree but that was before Jacob died. Just wondering now that MIB is in Locke's body and Jacob is dead if the situation has changed. MIB may have a pact/deal going with Widmore to get MIB off the island in exchange for Widmore controlling the island, something like that.

I thought last week's episode was the best of the season.....and then Darlton comes along and basically tells me to GTFO. This shite was awesome tonight.
Love what they're doing with Jack and Ben's characters. Jack FINALLY taking the reigns, realizing his importance, and stepping up as the man of faith. The scene with Richard in the Black Rock showed us a side of Jack that we've only seen hints of in the past. He even went Jackface a couple times which is always a welcome sight.
For Ben, it's weird actually feeling good for his redemption with all the bad shite he's done in the past. Having said that....I couldn't be happier with the way the scene w/ him and Ilana went at the end AND the fact that he didnt follow the MiB. Much more interested to see Ben interact with the "good guys" from here on out.
As for Widmore at the end....damn. I knew he was in this episode but I thought it would be in the flash-sideways capacity. I wasn't expecting him back on the Island near this soon.
And as for the Hydra Island....totally forgot about all the Ajira people still there. They are about to be like

Which would probably end up being a lie - MIB dumps Locke's shell and assumes Widmore.

Absolutely. I'm just saying that it doesn't rule out the entire island having been in a time-loop at some point in fact we know it was during the flashing episodes. My question is: what exactly was happening when the button was pushed every 108 minutes? Was it keeping the island in a time-loop, keeping the island from getting to an impending disaster and does that explain why pregnancies were a problem?

Her form appeared to Ben as a child. Maybe some kind of relevance. Probably was just MIB though.
