Is anyone watching Kimmel?
Anyone up for a game of Connect 4 million? He had Jacob and MiB on the beach playing it.

This thread is funny and it perfectly illustrates what Mother said at the beginning of the episode..."any question I answer will only lead to more questions." Anyone expecting any kind of detailed explanation for what "the light is" or why it needs protecting are only setting themselves up for disappointment. The light can be anything you want it to be...God, Goodness, life, peace...whatever...it doesn't matter. It's something bigger than us.
This is a work of fiction. A fabulous piece of fiction/fantasy, with symbolism out the wazoo. As with any piece of fiction worth its salt, it should be open to interpretation. The symbolism and the emotions evoked from the show are why I watch it. I could care less about what the light is or why it needs protecting. It's about watching people lie and people getting deceived. It's about human failure and human success. It's about faith versus reason. It's about whether people should act on faith or question it and hesitate. It's about good and evil. Why do we really need to know about the fricking statue? It's meaningless in comparison to the interactions between the characters and the deeper philosophical issues this show brings up.
Having said all that, I'm sure you've all guessed by now...I liked the episode and it went about like I expected. This was going to be about Jacob/MIB and Mother. And for those that say they don't think MIB is all that bad...you are right, he wasn't...
This whole time, through all 6 seasons, one of the biggest issues that Lost has presented is whether it is reasonable to act on faith without questioning or should one question what one is told. This has been one of the most fascinating aspects of Lost to me. For Christians and people of other religions, this is a very pertinent question. Interestingly, LOST has come down on both sides of the issue. With Locke, his actions and "faith" got him manipulated and dead. With Jack, it seems that his faith is going to put him on the "good" side. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Like any good philosophical question, there is no right answer. So to expect the LOST writers to answer questions they can't, is asking too much. I'm sure there are plenty of holes in my little diatribe that won't satisfy any of you, just as there are in LOST. Oh well... I still love the show and you will be disappointed. Now which one of us is stupid?
right on, brother....right fricking on!

It was a skit with the real MIB and Jacob making fun of the show and the white/black rock game they played when they were kids. It was basically a spoof ad for a game called Connect 4 million. Jacob wins and MIB gets pissed and turned to smoke and attacks him.

i liked it.
it still seems like people are waiting for the writers to sit down and go over a list with each question and the exact answer.
i personally don't have many questions left. now it just comes down to how its going to end.
i can't wait for the widmore/ben reunion. i think widmore was searching for the light. and like "mother" said men take too much. (or something like that)
i think MIB leaving the island would represent "man" taking the light. therefor he cannot be allowed to leave.
maybe that stuff was said in the last 7 pages but i get tired of reading these threads at times.

she had a replacement with Jacob.

Second...I don't care how ju-jitso they are...no way they killing all those motherfrickers by hand no less (ie. blood) and still covering up that huge fricking hole in the ground by the time MIB gets up from his concussion....then they're back to the other side of the Island like nothing happened.
Not to confuse the matter anymore than it already is, but who is to say the mother was not a little "smokey" herself. She could have wiped out all the people in the camp and covered the well if she was in a smoke form. She seems to know what it is like inside the cave of light based on her warnings never to go in there (which may mean she has been in there and got turned to smoke, and maybe this is how she got her powers). She seems thankful when MIB takes her life in the end, when he snuck up on her and stabbed her with a dagger before she had a chance to speak to him. Perhaps she had the conflict of good and evil inside her all along and in raising Jacob and MIB she raised two polar opposites and she was not sure which was closer to her heart until she was forced to make a decision.
I don't know, but that is the only way I can see that she wiped out that entire camp of people since I doubt she had the time to bang all their heads with a rock.

I thought the episode was terrific. It seems to me that those complaining about it came in with certain expectations about what this episode would deliver. This was a Jacob/MIB flashback. Its purpose was to explain their story. It was never about giving the entire history of the island. In fact, those waiting for a character to sit down and just explain the answer to every question might as well just move along. It ain't going to happen.
Do you not think this episode is setting up the finale? Yes, we didn't get to see what was inside the cave of light and how Smokie was created. Do you think for one minute that cave won't be a major factor at the end of the show. I bet we will be seeing much more about that source of light.

All I cared about was getting told what the rules were.

I see more questions than answers. And not telling us MIB's name was pretty annoying. Especially since he always used Jacob's name.
Actually we did get his name, Adam. His mother is Eve.

I like that a lot. However, it really didn't seem like MIB was evil at all.
this is word for word at the light
Mother: Dont go in there
MIB: What's down there?
Mother: Light, the warmest, brightest light you've ever felt, and we must make sure that noone ever finds it.
MIB: Its beautiful
Mother: Yes it is...and that's why they'd want it...Because a little bit of this very same light is inside of every man....but they always want more.
Jacob: Can they take it?
Mother: No but they would try and if they tried they could put it out...and if the light goes it here, it goes out everywhere and so I've protected this place, but I can't protect it for ever.
MIB: Then who will
Mother: It will have to be one of you.
Jacob looking pensive, MIB looking longingly toward cave.

People have been telling you for years that you weren't going to be satisfied with the end of Lost if you expected an answer to every little question you've had. Heck, the writers have even had the character's mock you and state that you aren't going to get all the answers.
Get over it.
Its a single episode douche. I didn't like this episode particularly, but LOST has still had a hell of a season. The end will still likely be satisfying, even though I may not get the true answer to the statue of all mysteries.
