I think I might be in the minority on this one. I'm not saying it was mind-blowing or anything, but all of us went into the episode knowing it was about MIB and his motives. We got his entire backstory which we didn't know shite about earlier. That's what I expected and I got. I'm with Godfather here, I'm just gonna take what the next 2 weeks give me.
And also, if we didn't get MIBs name in this episode, it wouldn't surprise me if we never do.

Jacob drinks the wine that obviously gives him eternal life. Obviously that's why his mom never aged. We don't know what was in the wine or how it works, but I don't really care. I'm fine with this being a mystery.
Jacob's brother dies in the light but his spirit is still alive and can take the form of whatever.

It's nice to have some background on the island and I am fine with the placement of this episode in the season. The only problem I have is that MIB doesn't seem that bad.
Her explaining the light how she did was fine too. It's ancient times. Lots of weird things have logical explanations in 2010 but it's 46 ad or whatever.
Just tell me why mib is bad.

If the potion is needed to pass on the responsibility to watch the island then why did Jacob give the bottle to MIB in the Richard centric episode?
As usual, almost more questions than answers.
I actually liked the episode except the whole LIGHT needs protecting was a bit weak, but to be honest we always knew the core answers were probably going to be weak or unexplained.

sometimes its not about just getting answers but having the answers not be incredibly stupid, like he's immortal cause he drank some wine.
Oh well. I've enjoyed the show. Its just clear that its nowhere near as clever as I thought it was.

Why could MIB not leave the island to begin with?
