I've mentioned this before, but...what does it take for Jack to become Jacob's replacement? At first I was thinking there might have to be a ceremony of sorts. Now I'm wondering if Jack has already taken Jacob's place and he just doesn't realize it yet.
Thoughts?

I would rather that a few mysteries are left at the end of the series.
We've got plenty of room for that.
I hear what you are saying though. I would rather they had not answered the whispers mystery than do it in the half-assed way that they did.

Quick question. Now that we know MIB plan why didn't he kill the candidates from the beginning. He could have done it whenever he wanted to
Posted on 5/11/10 at 2:58 pm to Decatur
Ya, I'm ok with leaving mysteries, but that is definitely not one to leave unanswered.

What are you talking about? MIB can't kill the candidates.

Just thinking about all the possible ways the story could go at this point and I'm still clueless. Of all the major theories out there I really don't like any of them
I hate the reincarnation angle.
I hate the "so in so becomes the new so in so" angle.
I really don't like the Alt is epilogue because it cheapens the deaths of characters who died.
not sure how its going to wrap up but I hope they come up with someting good.

isn't that what he's been doing the whole time?

as I said earlier, I think he wanted to finish them all off at the same time. That is the only thing I can think of that justifies him not killing Sawyer/Sayid/Jin while they sat around the camp.

Once he had that accomplished he went about trying to get the candidates killed. Which leads us up to now ....

No way. The producers did not have a clue about Jacob or MIB or candidates until beginning of season 3 and even then it wasn't fully fleshed out.
They have all but admitted they made up all this as they went along to try and make the show the best they could.

quote:Yes way ... and it has nothing to do with whether or not the producers knew it from the beginning.
No way
This is the reason that MIB did not kill them (or get someone to kill them) outright. It doesn't matter if the producers came up with that story at the begging of the show or at the start of season 3 ... it's what the story is NOW and that is the question.
ETA: I was responding to this original question:
quote:The answer is that he needed them to kill Jacob. It doesn't matter when the producers came up with the idea. This is the answer.

candidates did not kill jacob. Ben did.
Posted on 5/11/10 at 4:37 pm to Tiger Ryno
Jebus ... did he not need Locke to get into the statue and convince Ben?
So if it's not to kill Jacob, why do you think that MIB is only now trying to get the candidates to kill one another/die?
(p.s. one of the Linus' was a candidate

I think he has been pitting people against each other since the beginning of the show and we have seen countless candidates killed (by each other or Island inhabitants). So much so, that only 3 (of the original 108 candidates are still alive). Not sure what you are getting at. It isn't easy to convince people to commit murder.
