question how did Ricardo so see his wife if she was dead?

I'm guessing he more felt her presence. Its been hinted at that the Whispers are from the dead, so maybe he was able to hear her through the whispers.

Two theories:

Simple one: It was the MIB manipulating Richard to setup the "you can get your wife back" maneuver.

Complex one: Jacob actually can take the form of dead people off island, i.e. Ben's mom, etc and was lying to Richard when he said he didn't get involved. Recall how he gets involved with Hugo after he dies.

Thought he was talking about when Hurley was beside them and he didn't speak. And I'm pretty sure its the simple theory.

only problem with simple theory is the fact that she was taken away by the smoke

i do like the feeling her presence theory one but idk your guess is as good as mine

Not a problem. Shannon in season one was manifested and also seemingly killed by Smokie, but that obviously wasn't the case.

I think that was cinematic as in "Let's establish Hurley as a translator to the audience and quickly get him out of the way so there would be more of an emotional impact between Richard and Isabella."

I'm kinda of leaning towards this. Otherwise you have to think that it was MIB who Hurley was talking with on the beach. I think the simple theory here is that Hurley was actually talking to ghost-Isabella.

I think it is confirmed Hurley can talk to the dead. He was talking to them all the time off the Island, and MIB obviously can't leave the Island.

And people who died off of the island can return to the island in "ghost" form?

Of course. The Island is a very spiritual place from what we have been made aware of.

so, back to the cave. I think the cave is MIB's because of the rock. Jacob gives Richard the white rock, Richard gives it to MIB, the next time we see it, it's on the scale - in the cave. Yes, I'm drawing a straight line and connecting the dots, not always the wisest move.

I disagree. Why would the MIB throw the rock into the water if it was his cave and say something to the effect "inside joke between me and Jacob"

Also, how do you explain the canidates on the ceiling?

Can we assume some of the ghosts are trying to influence events? Can we connect them to the whispers?

when? in the Black Rock or under the tree with Hurley?

in the Black Rock - that was MIB setting up Richard for later

under the tree - he never saw her or actually heard her voice. Maybe he was able to feel her presence though?

Can someone please explain why Jacob is justified in putting the entire world in jeopardy to prove a philosophical point to an eternally damned being?

it reminds me of clash of the titans where the gods just screw with humans for the fun of it.

Finally saw the episode last night and am very satisfied with the episode and answers. Two questions:

1. What rule was Ben talking about in regards to Alex? Was she the candidate?

2. It was a bright sunny day when the black rock first came to the island. How did it become night and rainy so fast?

My gf was crying at the end when Isabella and Richard were together. I found it very emotional, but doesn't come close to the phone call in The Constant.

People keep saying this and I have one small doubt that it was the MIB, since we have never seen the MIB take both the form of the smoke and the form of a human at the same time. While Isabella was running up the stairs in the Black Rock, you could clearly see the Smoke Monster. Maybe I am reading to much into this, but it seemed odd to me.

I don't think that was really her, but the MIB taking her form to manipulate Richardus in that scene.

I think at the end, he genuinely felt her presence and heard her words and it was her true spirit (or whatever).

I must have missed this. Was it simply that Jacob brought them to the island?

I suppose that after Richard became Jacob's emissary, Richard brought more and more people to the island and they started to worship Jacob as a god.
