People have totally misinterpreted this "Hell" sequence that Richard had at beginning of episode and that is what the LOST writers intended.

I think Whitmore wants to kill MIB to take on his power and liver forever.......he too is evil and in that sense would carry on what the MIB stands for.
what are you basing this on? how do you know that he will just inherit MIB's power.

I'm just assuming like every other fricker in this thread......I think Whitmore is seeking the Holy grail type of scenerio.......thats all.

I do know that the island isn't hell or on top of hell........or underneath it etc........

quote:incorrect. mib can't kill candidates. Eko was a man of faith and he killed him. I think he saw an opportunity to manipulate Richard.
When the smoke monster made contact with Richard, he didn't kill him because he was a man of FAITH.

richard isn't a candidate
he didn't kill richard because he wanted to use him to kill jacob..it had nothing to do with his faith.

I pretty much said "that's not the truth" from the moment arichard said that.

I know. I was pointing out who he could or couldn't kill. The only rule that seems to apply to mib is the candidate rule or if they given eternal life by Jacob.

From E-Online via Darkufo.com
"More Four-Play: Just what you wanted (no?) a new four letter word that will be revealed in two weeks which is very important. If you want to play along, here goes: This word has no A's, one E, and as of episode 11 it will be clear that this four-letter word is what this series is ultimately all about. It's also the word that just might end up connecting the two worlds (the island and the Flash-Sideways Los Angeles) we've been seeing all season long."
The first 4 letter word was revealed last night to be CORK. What's next?

I was going to sarcastically say the word is going to be Hell, but it's the best guess I have based on the clues...(hE11) Episode 11 and no angels(A's) in hell.

Forgive me for how simplistic this is going to sound...
What if they are playing to decide whether or not man will have a soul? Angels didn't have souls so God treated them different and some couldn't hack it.... Wasn't Satan cast down to Hell for going against God? Couldn't he lead an uprising if he managed to get out of hell (pop the cork)?
The people on the island could actually be souls BEFORE they are born... They are tested on the island and in their "actual life" which is the alternate timeline.
Adam and Eve are souls on the island before they become "real"... The question is whether or not they will have a soul or not.
Just spitballing.
Thoughts?
ETA:
Something along these lines would make sense in a "leading up to creation/trying to get it right" type scenario...
* Day and Night are up and running
* The sea has been created (Hydra station in charge of this)
* Land has been created
* Plants... check (Orchid was in charge of this)
* Animals... check (would explain the menagerie at one of the stations)
* Dharma initiative could be angels.
* Babies don't live because they are born without souls on the island

I enjoyed the episode, but I'm not going to be satisfied unless we know who put Jacob and MIB in their current positions. I need to know who they really are and what higher power put them there in order to be truly satiated.

I thought of hell at first but thought it would be too easy. Could be though. Most fans posting on boards, come up with these wild, overcomplicated theories and it's usually much simpler than that

Maybe I missed it or they just didnt explain it at all, but how did the ship get that far inland? Did the tide and waves send it that far in.
Also, that was a shitty explanation of how the statue got destroyed. Really? A wooden ship knocks over a huge arse stone statue. And if the shite hit the statue wouldn't that stop the ship right there?

I think it was a huge-arse tidal wave/storm surge type thing where only the top of the statue was exposed above the water. A 30-foot wave would plausibly knock over a statue and leave a ship far inland.

Yeah.

Yeah it's kind of a weak explanation, but it's proof that the writers have the audience so wrapped up in this show that they will literally believe anything as long as there's some answer. Kind of scary really.

No one has been able to explain how Ben was able to control the smoke monster in the cabin.
