I have been binge watching season 1 yesterday and today. There are 25 episodes. Did it play twice a week or it's it just one of the longest seasons a tv show ever had?

ABC shows have massive seasons.

My wife used to watch Once Upon a Time and they had over 20 episodes every season.

Every big show on the networks usually had 22 to 24 episodes. This is still true for the most part

Gotham, The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Greys Anatomy all have 20+ that are running now just off the top of my head.

I believe the first 3 seasons have 24 episodes. And they are all awesome.

I believe the last 3 seasons cut it to 15 or so

Networks do a lot of "midseason finales" these days so the seasons seem truncated.

Premieres are around Labor Day or September and finales are in may.

It is a long season

the finale was split into 3 episodes over two weeks. so technically there are 25 hours but only 23 episdoes.

Every season would have been this long but then the writer strike happened and cut each season in half.

No, that's not at all what happened. During Season 3 they negotiated how many episodes they had left before the end, and this resulted in shorter seasons regardless. Season 4 was cut short by 3 episodes, and those episodes were later added to the final 2 seasons.

If I didn't know better i would assume you were 17.

Shows were always that long pre-netflix. People realized there was no reason to burn through so much story or force filler onto the audience without the constraints of the "TV season"

Not Terribly uncommon. Monday Night Raw has 52 episodes per season.
