Used to be the best board on Tigerdroppings. It had a really good run. It's now half poli board. As evidence in this thread.

Personally I think it went to hell when the Sword in the Stone beat Princess Mononoke in the first round of the animation tournament.

Oh look Galadriel is a fighter afterall

Tolkien talks about her fighting talks about her being athletic kn her youth.

She takes part in wars. One of her names is Nerwen which mean “man-maiden.”

But yeah man they’re really going out on a limb giving her some armor.

Dang, you have a good memory. Emotions ran high in that tournament.

I think when it was all said and done, the best came out on top. The Lion King. If I remember correctly.

Still doesn’t say she was an armor clad warrior leading the armies of the North and hunting Orc.

Her part in the rebellion was not obeying the Valar. That’s not the same as saying she took part in the kin slaying & has blood on her hands.

You know why it use to be good? Because they didn’t inject your woke propaganda into tv shows and movies like Chuck, Scrubs, the wire, boy meets world, and Hang Time.

You retards are blaming everyone but the real culprits.

Get your head out of your arse and pay attention to stuff that's being said. I'm talking about actual Tolkien stuff, not politics, Jesus christ stfu.

Trying to touch on actual show related stuff... I was reading up on Galadriel possibly being a warrior at some point. Even just a little sign of it. I ran across this quote from an appendices...

quote:

quote:
"Galadriel, like all the other names of elvish persons in The Lord of the Rings, is an invention of my own. It is in Sindarin form (see Appendices E and F) and means 'Maiden crowned with gleaming hair'. It is a secondary name given to her in her youth in the far past because she had long hair which glistened like gold but was also shot with silver. She was then of Amazon disposition and bound up her hair as a crown when taking part in athletic feats."

"So it came to pass that when the light of Valinor failed, for ever as the Noldor thought, she joined the rebellion against the Valar who commanded them to stay; and once she had set foot upon that road of exile she would not relent, but rejected the last message of the Valar, and came under the Doom of Mandos. Even after the merciless assault upon the Teleri and the rape of their ships, though she fought fiercely against Fëanor in defence of her mother's kin, she did not turn back. Her pride was unwilling to return, a defeated suppliant for pardon; but now she burned with desire to follow Fëanor with her anger to whatever lands he might come, and to thwart him in all ways that she could." - the Unfinished Tales

Haven't read that before.

I think this gives us room for drama in the series... Celebrimbor is the grandson of Feanor. I recently caught the Nerd of the Rings youtube on Curufin, his father. Seems Celebrimbor was alive and in Valinor with Curufin and Feanor, and came over with them (his mother did not). Curufin was seen as the most like Feanor, including in the a-hole dept.

If Galadriel is holding that grudge, that paints a target on Celebrimbor. And we know Celebrimbor is out on his own; he's not in Lindon with Gil-Galad and Cirdan. It makes sense that the Rings come from the same bloodline that the Silmarils did. Both desired, and disastrous.

And yet, she ends up with one of the Three at the end. Kinda makes you wonder how they get from A to B there. I suppose that will be a big part of the plot.

I'm not saying it did. I agree her armor is completely ridiculous and honestly of every single thing that's come out of this show so far, that's what I take issue with the most. It's ridiculous.

But that Tolkien quote and appendices tells me more about Galadriel than I knew before. I didn't know she had fought in any battles. I thought she possibly defended an area but didn't know she actually could be viewed as a warrior at one point.

Did she lead an army? Doesn't say that, but that kind of tells me she could. She's Amazon, athletic, strong, was in a rebellion and didn't want to give up in the fight, etc.

I just found it interesting and that it's not some complete stretch of the imagination that she was a battle warrior.

Honest question - do you know what the rebellion was even about?

Elves could fight. Even Arwen raised a blade against the Nazgul (in the movies, that is). And Eowyn, of course...not an Elf maiden, but still.

But the point was, these were rare and situational. Not at all commonplace. Even for Guyladriel.

I wish I had a good enough memory to listen to stuff like that. I'll listen to it and two days later be like wait, what was his name again? I have to re-read and re-watch stuff to retain it and I just couldn't retain that.

The more you dig into actual lore, the more you learn Galadriel was far different in her earlier days. Proud, willful, defiant, and a definite Alpha in the Noldor camp. All of her immediate family were, she's the only one who didn't die in the First Age.

That mellowness we get in LOTR is the result of millennia of anger and pride converting to reflection and regret. And remember, she was still elevated above the others. Frodo offered her exactly what she wanted for thousands of years, and it was only her experience by that point, that allowed her to see she shouldn't take it. Had that happened earlier, she would have.

The Galadriel we get in the Second Age should reflect that.

Yes dude, I know. Tolkien is my favorite author of all time and have read The Silmarillion multiple times. Did you want me to give a synopsis on the flight of the Noldor or something? I've been in this thread trying to actually talk about the story not rant about politics and name calling the entire time or have to answer "so no?" questions when my answer is obvious.
