He rewrote all those stories and set them in a fictional world.
And like I said, you didn’t know any of his stories were based on old Celtic myths when you read them and yet you still enjoyed them. Because you don’t need to know the background and Tolkien himself has said you have freedom of thought when reading it.

No movie is a page for page telling of the books. You are being very selective with your “all or nothing” approach to what is Tolkien. You can’t say “well that didn’t happen so it’s not Tolkien” and the. Say “we’ll it’s close”
