The series needs a wizard, though. Just like it needs hobbits.
If you took a random person who saw the LOTR movies but was not otherwise a Tolkien fan, and you told them that there was a new Lord of the Rings TV series, but that it doesn't have any wizards or hobbits, I think that the reaction you would get would be one of confusion.
Thus, I conclude that the series will have a wizard in it.

All I'm saying is if meteor man is a blue wizard, it will at least have some basis in Tolkien. That's not the case if he's Annatar or Gandalf, which have no basis. I suppose he could also be some other Maia the show runners came up with, or something new altogether, and if either of those are true I think I'd rather a blue wizard.

I don't know if it's been discussed on here (things get lost with the political rants everywhere), but the media embargo is over. Seems to be getting good reviews, although some would call that a conspiracy.
I'm intrigued by what Nerd of the Rings posted:
LINK
I really like his Tolkien stuff, and he's been optimistic, but hesitant about a couple things: Meteor Man, the inclusion of the Harfoots, there being 2 Durins alive at the same time among others.
Sounds like most of his concerns, but maybe not all, have been resolved in a good way. He's real big on the lore, the overall tale (not fixated on actors that much, although he does praise some of the better fits).
I'm intrigued by what Nerd of the Rings posted:

Had the pleasure of joining a theater full of Tolkien fans in watching the first 2 episodes of #TheRingsOfPower . Can’t wait to say more, but there were more things for deep lore fans than I expected, and I walked away excited for what’s to come. 1/2

There are a couple things that I’m still a bit unsold on, but the craftsmanship on display here is very clearly top notch and some very specific concerns I had seem to be much ado about nothing, which is great. Can’t wait for everyone to see it so we can talk freely!! 2/2

Nerd of the rings is ok, but he mostly just reads the text to you. I prefer dork lords, Tolkien lore, or the red book YouTube channels for my deep dives on middle earth

Probably the best overall Tolkien channel on YT if you really really want to get into the weeds. He also stays mainly on the more mystical, First Age/Ainur type of subjects, and basically ignores the Hobbits and more children-oriented characters, which I really like.
In Deep Geek is also a tremendous channel for learning the gist of Tolkien and the ancient heroes and villains of The Silmarillion. It also helps so much that he is a phenomenal narrator.

To clarify: I do not believe that Tolkien was racist. At the least, he was not consciously racist. If you want a balanced reading, go to the Wikipedia article: Tolkien and Race. LINK But a balanced view is not what critics would do with this show if it were filmed with an all-white cast. It would be savaged as a racist show from a racist author
That’s why tolkien work is so good. It was an all white cast. Get the frick over it you commie soy boy.

This commie soy boy is piece of shite just like all the others. Talking about how there are too many white people centered in these shows. He needs the shite kicked out of him. These progs are truly terrorists in this country.

The downvoters are white guys who hate shows with white people in them. You people are truly mentally ill.

So let me get this straight.
What makes Tolkien great is it’s an all white fantasy and that anyone that talks about the “whiteness” of American fantasy shows should be met with violence and intimidation for expressing that opinion. An opinion you seem to acknowledge is true.
And somehow in your warped narrative you’re the good guy and they are the terrorists?

Nah, it's too fun watching you 45 year old manchildren cry all over the internet cause some black elves and hobbits exist in some fantasy adaption from some rich guy using his frick you money to give a billion dollar gift to himself... Simultaneously telling everyone how little you care.
This shite is destroying you mental midgets and it's endlessly enjoyable to observe. I just feel for the people that would like to watch this likely mediocre show without having to put earplugs in cause you all cant stop screeching
You understand so little of this topic that I'm wondering why you even bother posting.

That's so interesting. Obviously, Norse mythology became beloved by racists, and that's why the Nazis pushed it as they pushed Christianity out of the way.
I was not aware that there were racist groups who were doing the same thing with Tolkien -- adopting it as a kind of faux-religious text promoting white racial glory.
Please tell me more about how this works for you.

White cast in the LOTR >>>
Get over it
Get over it

What Bronc fails to understand is that Tolkien fans, are all ages and varieties. The Hobbit was written for basically 10 year olds to young teens. I believe Christopher Tolkien was 10 years old when he read and then gave his first report of the book to his father. Either way, it only shows how oblivious Bronc is to the fandom.
I remember going to a premiere of Fellowship 20 years ago. While the audience was full of mostly younger people, the sort you would expect for a midnight movie, it also had a smattering of people in their 50s and 60s. No doubt they were teenage college-aged back when the original book was first released.
With no legitimate point to make, it seems that ridiculing ones age is somehow effective?

Making my point if you think this meme depicts the typical Tolkien reader.
