Of course it would have made a difference. You don't think going up against another Robin Hood movie and Mary Queen of Scots is the same as going against Infinity War and Deadpool 2, do you?
The extra time also gives them a chance to fix production and marketing issues.

Probably $500M+ easy with an early/mid December release. Maybe more considering the competition at that time.

Yeah. He seriously thinks IW and Deadpool are going to take 300 million away from Solo. The combined total of both while Solo has been out won’t reach that.

It’s kind of amazing how TLJ killed my Star Wars fandom. I wasn’t some huge Star Wars nerd, but I was fan. Now I just don’t really even care how the new trilogy ends. Unless the one-off movies have incredible reviews & word of mouth, I probably won’t be wasting my time either. What Rian Johnson did was that bad.

But seriously, I am a HUGE SW nerd, and TLJ exorcised all of that shite from me.
It actually made the OT kinda shitty, when you consider how big a bitch Solo and Luke become.

In other words, competition isn’t what’s keeping this from a big number. Time of year isn’t either since May has had more 1 billion months than any other month, this year included.
I don’t know what else they could have done to fix the production since they already “fixed” it once. Stalling for more fixes would cost it more money without the return. So it would lose even more money.

If TLJ had left SW fans excited, they would have beaten a path to the theater for Solo, irrespective of the month or hour.

TLJ had every real SW fan feeling that the franchise was on the wrong track. Many felt it had too much SJW hamfisted preaching.
Fast forward to Solo. Fans feeling tentative about it. Then the producers talking about making one of the manliest characters in the galaxy a fig.
Whether it was reflected in the movie or not, it made fans feel like KK was going to shite on another iconic character.
They stayed home.

Plus the current labor battle causing possible long term employee moral issues.
You really think middle to upper class families are gonna spend $1,000 per person/per night for a very niche experience @ the Star Wars hotel vs the Luxury of the Grand Floridian or Polynesian, etc... ? When the wife/mom is booking the trip, she sure as hell won’t wanna be around a bunch of nerds in robes holding a plastic sword.

I was a massive Star Wars fan. Owned multiple copies of the original trilogy, had action figures, micro machines, all that shite as a kid. I even liked the prequels. I was even willing to overlook TFA's banality.
TLJ killed it for me. Yeah, I've learned to appreciate other less fantastical sci-fi more, but I still loved the star wars universe.
Loved.
Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy having any control over this franchise is like giving a daycare to Casey Anthony and Jerry Sandusky.

All we see is article after article that Star Wars is failing because the world is full of bad Star Wars fans.
These same Star Wars fans who kept it alive and now are expected to just go along without whatever crap comes...they can't have an opinion? They can't complain?
You didn't see movie reviewers and news outlets complaining that people hated Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and because so they were misogynistic or racists. If a movie sucks it sucks. It's the article writers who are bringing agenda into this...not simply toxic fans...as if they should be sheep to Disney's nonsense. They have an opinion and spent 30-40 years cultivating that opinion.
The core audience? What happened to Luke and how the Star Wars re-franchise at Disney is a perfect example of what is going on.
They want the Star Wars fans from yesterday to retire to the pasture...and it's been a middle finger to the so-called "toxic fans" that made Star Wars survive from the end of Jedi to the prequels. Disney seems intent on biting off the hand that once fed them.
