You have obviously not been paying the slightest bit of attention to how many people go to Disney or how much they pay.

Nor have you ever bothered to note how every character must meet VERY high standards and has been this way since the parks were created.

You’ve never actually been to WDW have you?

But the fact a bunch of angry fans boycotted the Star Wars film headlined by a white dude and had the most conservative, throwback story of the new films was just an insanely poor strategy.

Why? It was the next one.

I'm boycotting 9, too.

I was excited after 7.

8 was so bad, I just don't care how it ends.

There are a bunch like me, as SOLO just found out.

I don't exactly know what I'm going to do as this goes forward. To some extent I've already sided against the present Disney iteration of Star Wars by just staying home for Solo after TLJ. It wouldn't have cost me anything financially to go since I have moviepass but the idea of financially supporting the studio that seems hell bent on destroying what people enjoyed for no particularly good reason doesn't seem like a good outcome either. After all, if Solo had done well it would have just improved people's view of how the present Disney management is handling Star Wars. That seems like a bigger loss.

I also really don't appreciate how the films and the fan arguments have mirrored and amplified the lack of interpersonal decency. That decency used to be more common in our culture and on this board in particular. When someone resorts to an insult (whether that be "liberal", "alt-right", or "fan-boy") rather than attempt a meaningful discussion of what they personally liked about a film? They reveal themselves to be presently more motivated by antipathy than kindness.

That's something I regret seeing lost. People can hate a movie or love a movie. That's what this board is about. But the discussion about what we like and dislike is supposed to be about the opinions and the films discussed. We learn things from those discussions. It isn't supposed to just be another twitter insult or angry person on the internet cultivating dislike through name calling.

Talk about what you love. Don't talk about how much you hate other people for not loving what you love. You won't win any new converts and you'll cultivate a clique of ugliness no one ought to wallow within.

Yep he made a solid movie. Not great but solid.

Hopefully Disney learned not to insult your fans if they don’t like your film. It’s not a good strategy.

That was unequivocally the dumbest thing they did after TLJ was released.

Who knew that deriding fans who didn't like your movie as misogynsts and racists would alienate them?

This type of interaction only worked for the Harry Potter themed lands @ Universal b/c JK was a stickler for authenticity, in design as well as cast interactions. Employees are had to pass tests and countless trainingsto develop the ‘character’ needed and most importantly are paid extra.

Disney will have a hard time motivating college program interns to sustain this level of ‘immersion’

Plus the whole ‘fully immersive’ hotel they’re building sounds cool and all until they run out of role playing nerds who mortgage their parent’s basements to cover the $800+ per night for a room.
Just about all of this is wrong.

Their hotels are plenty busy. No reason a Star Wars hotel won’t be.

quote:

It’s gonna be constant complaining and backlash: rich people only staying for the novelty complain about the hoards is freeloading berds wandering the hotel, and the Poors complaining once the hotel is for ‘guests only’

Have you ever been to a Disney property?

Plus the toxic ones make a small percent. Ticket sales should dip slightly if just them.

That article is 100% correct on that point.

One other possible reason - possible SW fatigue? As in too much of a diminishing quality product? And in general maybe potential movie goers are wondering if there are any really good movies, as in intelligent scripting and stellar acting, coming our way out of Hollywood at all, anymore.

Because we didn't just have the biggest April ever?

Isn't real. People will go see franchise movies as long as the movies remain good. One bad one can hurt the next while one really good one can boost the next. Timing is a small factor.

Across the board "AMEN!" I am sick to death of the ignorance and insults posted along these threads. I believe we could all do better. And should, while there is still a TD community.

OK, now let the "snowflake" GTFO comments commense.

Hell, I'd go to see four Star Wars movies in a year if they were any good. It's just a shame the cartoons they've been putting out (Clone Wars, Rebels) are light years better than the new movies.

Meh. They're extracting all the salvageable organs from the brain dead body that Lucas all but killed with the prequels.

There, I said it.

Partially, but Disney also released Solo in a bloated market.

Bloated Market = 3 weeks clear of any competition. Incredibles 2 is going to be huge. Jurassic World 2 is going to be huge. Ant Man 2 comes out later this summer and will be huge. But suuuuuurrrreeee. “Bloated market”.
