Title says it all. It seems like pretty much all season 2's are disappointing letdowns. The only exceptions I can think of are Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones. I would like to get into something else, it almost seems like I'll just be setting myself up for disappointment. Thoughts?

Those were the first two I was going to mention.

The Sopranos
Better Call Saul (season 2 is better than in season 1)
Mr Robot (season 2 wasn't as good as season 1, but it didn't suck)

I've seen Fargo, and that's a great suggestion. Although, I didn't care for the ending. Yet the whole season was fantastic.

I've heard mixed things about the season 2's for Mr. Robot, and Better Call Saul. I guess I'll have to give them a go at some point.

Soprano's is on my list.

i find that many shows peak in season 2

season 1 is kind of the time when they are feeling around and establish some shite, then they get picked up for a 2nd season and really make things work at a high level

justified and the wire are probably the 2 best examples

I think the peak is usually somewhere between 2-3, and sometimes 4.

See BSG, X-Files, Homicide, The Wire, etc.

But that's for anyone show that runs at least 5-6 Seasons, even sitcoms

Best Seasons of Seinfeld - 3 and 4. Friends - 3 and 4. Cheers - 3 and 4. Fraiser - 4. Etc.

I'll be sure to give Leftovers a try as well. I tried watching season 1 about a year ago, but could not get past the slowness of the first couple episodes. I'm glad to hear it apparently gets better!

I fell in to the same trap after being excited to watch the premiere. I can't watch it quick enough now though.

If you thought S1 was sort of a slog, the second season makes it worth it. It's excellent TV. These days, what I enjoy most is well made and original TV/film where the storylines are way off the generic path for the genre. Season 2 is basically the definition of that.

Halt and Catch Fire.
The first season was disappointing. The second season was very good. They put the spotlight on the most interesting characters. Plus, it was about people trying to build a company, instead of about a sociopath who hijacked a successful business and was running it aground.
