Harry Lime was raised in the south side of Chicago. He was the son of a textile factory foreman. In fact, his grandfather worked in the same factory for years prior to his father but lost his finger in one of the machines as they were industrializing the factory. His grandfather, Harry, the first of the name was forced into and early retirement and then into an asylum when they determined he had dementia. It was expected that Harry would continue working in the factory like the rest of his family but he had greater dreams. He had wanted to play professional baseball and upon retirement open a chain of deep dish pizza restaurants. Harry had a lot of skills as a pitcher at his high school but never really had the support of his family. He couldn't afford to attend college after graduation and was a relative unknown in the baseball community because he played for a perennial loser. Despite that he was able to tally all 6 of his teams wins his senior year while only allowing 3 total runs in 10 starts. Harry elected to attend open try outs for the white sox. He made the cut but began to have knee problems with his plant leg. He was forced to quit baseball. But he still had dreams of building a chain of pizza parlors.

For the first 2-3 years he was quite successful and was rated best deep dish in all of Chicago and even appeared in a write up in the Chicago Sun about self-made business owners.

Unfortunately a series of poor investments and one of his employees embezzling money led to the collapse of Harry's promising pizza business.

Harry had a wife and a child with special needs. Do to layoffs made by the textile factory he was unable to find a job in that sector. He began to work evenings as a security guard at a local night club. He soon found that he had easy access to the vaults and was able to launder money a little at a time until he was finally caught. He serve 1 year in county jail before he was released due to the prison needing room for more violent offenders.

While in prison his wife left him for a successful taxi company owner who was able to provide for her and the child with special needs.

It was at this time that Harry was reunited with his high school buddy and baseball team catcher Marv Merchants. Marv had been working closely with another acquaintance Bob Sacamano (yes that Bob Sacamano) running a pawn shop with things that conveniently fall of the truck. But Marv felt like Bob was taking advantage of him and wanted to get away from him and start his own thing.

They began with small jobs in the trailer parks but quickly moved on to the nicer suburbs.

Pete the North Pole Santa got involved in the Santa gig to make a little extra cash around the holidays. His Christmas Eve get together with his buddies were important in that he could finally blow off some steam after a long December of “What do you want for Christmas?”. Smoking had always been a habit but he knew that the facade of Saint Nick was important to uphold and therefore he couldnt be seen smoking cigarettes around children. He could finally light up on the way to the liquor store and then his friends place. Then he heard a voice, quickly flicking his cigarette he knew it was only one more child he would have to listen to for this holiday season. But he hadn’t expected Kevin. He had heard requests for bikes and video games and toy soldiers but he wasn’t mentally equipped to handle requests from a child to get their entire families back. He looked inward and wondered what could have happened to this poor child’s family. The McCallisters were affecting outsiders at this point. The look on his face says it all. What can you tell a child with no family. And then his inability to not even brighten the child’s day with a candy cane? He’s been reduced to tic-tacs. Absolutely disgusted with himself he tried to lighten the mood with a ‘don’t spoil your dinner’

Pete had a long drive to his friend's home. He was already late having been stopped by Kevin. The entire drive he sat in silence. The only sound being the shifting of the heap of trash in the passenger floorboard and his Santa suit moving back and forth over the vinyl of his seats as he hit bumps driving through the Chicago suburbs.

The silence was deafening. He replayed the conversation he had with Kevin only moments earlier. He began to question his life decisions and in a moments notice decided he would not be spending Christmas Eve with his buddies. He hit the breaks and nearly slid off the road. He made u-turn and quickly sped the other direction.

By the time he had arrived the festivities had already begun. He was ashamed of who he had become but he had spent the entire drive building up the courage it would take to walk into his family's home. It had been 3, no... 4 years since he had last been to his parents home for Christmas. As he slowly walked to the front door he could hear the laughter emanating from inside the home. He slowly turned the doorknob with a quivering hand. All at once the laughter stopped as everyone turned to see who was at the door. A silver haired lady and a bald man with a grey mustache embraced him with tears in their eyes and in unison spoke up "Merry Christmas, son."

People had these things called WRIST WATCHES back in the day!

The idea that in a house of some 20 people there were no semi-early risers who would have rolled over and looked at their watches on their nightstands is absurd. And that’s not to even mention digital wrist watches like the cheap Timexes everyone had back then, which had alarms!

I don't remember what page my brick analysis was on, but I wonder if the pics still show up or if I need to re-host them on a different host site.

Also, I don't remember but I believe Sally the grocery store cashier was discussed before...but she doesn't get nearly enough hate IMO.

Not only does she ask entirely too many personal questions to her customers, but she doesn't even flinch when an 8 year old straight up lies to her face about being alone. She could have easily contacted her manager and had him call the police and they could have kept Kevin from having to face to murdering rapist thieves in his own home. He also could have been reunited with his family a lot sooner I feel like.

But nah, she just buys his ruse about his mom being in the car, dad at work, and being an only child. if Kevin would have gotten murdered, she should have felt bad for the rest of her life about it. But she probably wouldn't have even batted an eye about it. She'd just have seen his face flash across the screen on the local news, and told her abusive boyfriend "Babe, that little murdered boy was in the store yesterday. Isn't that hilarious?" and then gone back to her People magazine.

What a bitch.

most interesting character of Home Alone 1=Jimmy. he is given the task of apprehending Kevin after the little shite jacks a toothbrush from his store. he really is the all american kid. nicely combed hair, well dressesd, and sweeping up the store like a champ. too bad he can't run down a 9 year old. whats worse is he forces the elderly cop to run down Kevin on the frozen lake. Jimmy probably went on to raise a perfect family and get a well paying job. not being able to catch McCallister would probably be his only regret.

Watched Home Alone 2 with the girlfriend last night. She’s coming around on our mindset with these movies.

Something I just noticed... John candy tells Mrs. McAllister we're all bad parents. It's ok we're on the road all year, don't know our kids names etc... Way to rationalize being a deadbeat father or delinquent parent John Hughes.

Now watching HA2 for the first time since I was a kid. In game notes:

Uncle Frank seriously is the worst. We start off with verbal sexual abuse threatening Kevin is he goes into the bathroom.

Then the behavior of a room full of adults in the pageant is disgusting.

Kevin's speech when he was supposed to be apologizing was the best and most honest part of both movies. And yet somehow no one understands how horrible it was for a room full of adults to be laughing at a 9 year old. Then uncle frank gets a chance to be a huge dick again.

Uncle frank at it again, refusing to help with kevin's bag at baggage claim.

Tim Curry spying on a 10 year old boy showering. Sicko.

Hit on the head with a brick thrown from 4 stories up. He'd be dead. Aaaand he's died like 6 times now.

Was it just me, or was the Talkboy the most disappointing toy of all time? That thing was awesome in the film, but cheap as frick in real life.

I don't think I was more excited about another toy growing up than when I got a Talkboy for Christmas.

Never understood that rationale from Harry, even when I was a kid. A murder occurs in the house and Harry is like yeah let's stay and see if we can get a look at the guy in case we ever get hauled in by the cops for questioning. Dumb as hell. Give Marv credit for wanting to get the hell out of there.
