Tarantino is a great writer, above average director. It's his writing that makes his movies good, not necessarily the direction.

Coens
Spielberg
Scorsese
Malick
Nolan
Tarantino

I'm a pretty big Tarantino fan, but he isn't better than the other guys on this list.

I agree whole heartedly. Like I said he isn't technically the best director but I think his best is better than anyone else's best out of the ones discussed.

This is personal taste of course I'm not saying that Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs is better than ET or No Country for Old Men but I certainly enjoyed the first two more and that's what I based my vote on.

Damn, that's tough to order.

I can tell you Malick is my least favorite. He shoots a very beautiful film school final though.

1. Coen Bros
2. Martin Scorsese
3. Quentin Tarantino
4. Terrence Malick
5. Chris Nolan
6. Steven Spielberg

The Batman films hurt Nolan IMO. His non Batman work is near perfection

Spielberg has some great films but also some real trash too

Coens, Scorsese, and QT all grade out with an A imo. Just a matter of quantity that separate them. Malick is right behind them and a level above Nolan/Spielberg

Tarantino - He may not be the "best" in a technical sense but I've enjoyed his best more than any of the other directors best. I stutter stepped in choosing him as my number 1 only because he doesn't have as much available as the others. I couldn't find a way to fault him for that though.

Scorcese/Spielberg - I can not in good conscience pick the better out of these two. They are both legends.

Coen brothers - being number 3 on this list is not a slight against them by any means

Nolan - Makes really good movies and is probably more consistent than all of these guys but while his lows are better than theirs his highs don't reach the greatness of his peers.

Malick - while I respect his work, I still don't like it.

This is a fantastic answer. Your Scorsese/Spielberg, Coen and Nolan answers were spot on. 3rd and 4th on that list ain't a slight to any of them and are almost interchangeable.

Not that its a contest, but the Coen Bros are running away with it here. Kind of surprising.
