I know this is the age old question, but the recent Carson threads got me wondering who prefers what considering Leno took over the Tonight Show while Letterman was supposed to be the rightful heir.

I'll be honest, I don't think Leno is funny at all. If it weren't for cue cards, he'd be lost. It's amazing to me that he consistently beats Letterman. However, Letterman can be a bit of a jerk and he probably interjects his politics a bit too much. He's still 100 times more original than Leno.

I think Letterman is the better talent but he has become a bitter political pundit in recent years. Can't stomach him anymore.

As a kid it was always Leno but then around college I went to Letterman after I saw him in person in New York. He was hilarious in person and not snobby like some tv guys can be when you see them live. That said, I'd take Conan over them all.

this is the sole reason i would say leno but even with that its a razor thin margin. Team Coco FTMFW

That's bullshite. Jay has been doing stand up for decades and can work a crowd better than any other late night host.

Now this is why I click on threads on topics I have no interest in. I know you'll be in here saying something like this. Thanks for not disappointing me.

I agree. I don't find Jay all that funny but the OP saying he'd be lost without cue cards is bullshite.

I know he does stand-up. I hear he's good in clubs and such. However, I've been to the Tonight Show & The Late Show and compared to Conan or Letterman, Leno relies solely on what's on the cue cards. He also stole most of his bits from others. Headlines was originally Letterman's and Jaywalking was Howard Stern's.

Leno is nothing but a thief. Stolen jokes, stolen shows...

Watching Conan on letterman the other night was very interesting given they both got screwed by the chin, as did lettermans close friend Johnny Carson. Johnnys last tv appearance was on letterman and he was funneling jokes to him for a while too.

Between the two letterman > Leno. Conan is better than either for my tastes. He will probably be lettermans successor, which is fitting.

I never really thought about that until after Conan was on Letterman. Even before Conan lost the Tonight Show, he and Letterman had a good relationship. Wouldn't shock me if that happened and by that time, Conan would be more appealing to that demographic.

I don't see Leno retiring for another 10 years or so. I wonder if Jimmy Fallon would replace him.

I can't believe this is even being questioned.
Even Leno knows Letterman is the king of late night.

1) Letterman
2) Coco
3) Ferguson
4 -tie) Leno/Fallon

Man, I feel the exact same way. I quit watching him leading up to the last election.

Uhh no. Kimmel is better than both of these scrubs. Of the two, I like Leno better. He's not great, but Letterman blows.
