Last of the Mohicans featured on The Rewatchables

I've basically stopped listening to all Bill Simmons/Ringer content because they're just so insufferable now, but apparent today The Rewatchables dropped an episode on Last of the Mohicans.
I don't give a shite, this is going to be a must listen, if nothing else to hear the music one more time and hear them talk about the final 20 minutes of the film...
The podcast only features Simmons and the other guy he always does Michael Mann movies with.
Just for the hell of it: Promontory

Like 80 percent of the rewatchables episodes are made up of Michael Mann and Tony Scott movies at this point
Just watched Miami Vice and listened to their rewatchables episode on it and their fandom was a little too much. They were so amped up about the movie they just whipped past all its flaws and really missed out some of the unintentional comedy of the movie. They somehow came to the conclusion that this was Colin Ferrells apex moutain, when in reality it almost destroyed his career and was probably one of the lowest points in his life given the addition issues ( not to mention...it was a TERRIBLE performance by him)
Would be nice to get some more 2000s era films for these

I don't really know what Farrell's apex would be (maybe Phone Booth or SWAT honestly), but yeah, it ain't Miami Vice.
I'm a huge Mann fanboy, but I hated that film when I saw it in theaters. We made fun of Farrell the whole time for his bizarre hair, mustache and perfomance.
I've learned to really like the movie. It's not his best, obviously, but if you're in that kind of mood, it's a great watch.

was scrolling through the movie channels last night and saw where its the 20th anniversary of Meet the parents...
that would be a solid comedy episode movie they can do in my opinion

I was super excited about this Rewatchables and I have no idea how it took them this long to do it considering their love for Michael Mann, but I was kinda disappointed in their breakdown of the movie
One thing I did learn that I found interesting was that Trevor Jones, who is credited for the soundtrack, didn't actually create the soundtrack

I know the guy who trained Daniel Day Lewis for Mohicans. David Webster in early 90's ran a self defense/body guard exclusive camp in tiny Seale, Alabama, between Eufaula and Phenix City. One summer Lewis trained side by side with Webster at the camp learning how to fight, throw weapons, etc. I got to know Webster because he based his Cessna 182 at Weedon Field airport in Eufaula, and being a fellow pilot we talked frequently about airplanes, flying, etc. Webster has a role in Mohicans as a Mohican warrior and gets shot and killed in a scene where he raids a camp. Webster also had a bit role in Under Siege with Steven Seagall, which was filmed on USS Alabama in Mobile, and gets shot in killed in that one too. Webster was a special forces officer in the Army. Anyway, I always have fun telling movie buffs about the time Daniel Day Lewis lived in the south Al. sticks. Here's behind scenes video with much filmed near Seale, Al., showing Lewis training with Webstr, and interviews with Webster, etc. LINK

“I’m a fiend for mojitos” is one of the greatest lines in cinematic history.

That one "mojitis" scene in the boat is up there with any scene Mann has ever directed... And that's saying a lot. The music, the dialogue, the sounds, the shots... Everything. Nobody else could have pulled it off quite as cool. LINK

Best last 20 minutes of a movie ever? That and The Godfather?

Don't know about best last 20, but I vote for The Graduate having best last 5-10 minutes.

Anyone who's listened to this podcast... It's just so disappointing. That dumbass Simmons kept harping on this whole "this is an mtv movie" take. It's beyond terrible.
Even the other guy finally said to him, "you keep saying that, but it's about as classical of a movie as you can make."
It's just such a bad observation yet he said it like 5 times. I still don't know what it means. He said the last 20 minutes was a "music video."
Well, no its actually the best finale I think I've ever seen. It's just beautiful and superb filmmaking that happens to have music behind it.
By Simmons' logic I guess the first half of 2001: A Space Oddysey is also a music video. Who knew. Stan the man invented the genre.

Often my sentiment after these podcast episodes.. not enough talk of the actual movie itself

Why is it so hard for people to enjoy talking about a rewatchable movie ?

The most disappointing episodes I can think of, though, were Varsity Blues and Dazed and Confused.
It's also no coinicdence, i'm sure, that both are about quentessentially Southern settings... Something no one at that channel/company remotely understands. Dazed is the by far the best depiction of rural/southern HS life.

He said this once at the very beginning. He was talking about the pervasiveness of the soundtrack throughout the third act, along with very 90s editing techniques that this movie absolutely uses. He also clearly loves the ending. You're going to be fine.
Why are you listening to podcasts you don't enjoy? Who's making you?
