Looks to be more of modern monster movie as opposed to the last one which was traditional Kong / love film.

The Kong in this movie is much larger than the ones we've seen in past films.

Looks like they totally ripped off Apocalypse Now in the military scenes. The yellow haze, the hueys approaching, the primal nature of the world. The yellowness and smoke really is the kicker though.
