King Robert wasn’t that bad of a ruler after all

People love to bad mouth him but look at all the other rulers on the show.
Aerys - Crazy
Joffrey - idiot sadist
Tommen - too soft, inexperienced, nice...easily manipulated.
Cersei - power hungry, cries at sight of defeat
Dany - mad, unpredictable
Sure, Robert wasn’t political saavy, had bad spending habits. But he wouldn’t hurt his own innocent people. He’s willing to protect and go down with his kingdom. Doesn’t hold grudges against the enemies he fought as he’s willing to party with them the next day. Had a sense of humor, willing to laugh at himself. I’d gladly choose king Robert vs the others as my ruler.

I don't like his financial policy. How do you run up a huge debt when you aren't even at war for most of your reign? How many whores was he banging?

When Robert took over, he assumed the debt the Crown already owed. He made it worst hosting too many tourneys.
The Lannisters had their own debt.

Robert is by far the best ruler we've seen.
Not a lunatic. Only hates people who actually deserved it.
He also seemed to be the least ego driven. He never intended to be king, it's just how it ended up.

Robert was basically forced into the throne. Ned or Jaime could have taken it, but they refused it.

They would have never accepted Jamie after Ned walked in on him sitting on it with Aerys's bloody body at his feet. I'm honestly a little surprised Tywin didnt make a move for it.

I dont remember that chapter. Cliffs? Did it come down to not wanting Tyrion to be Lord of the Rock since Jamie had already given up all titles and entitlements when he took the white?
