Don't really care what Kevin Smith thinks. As soon as I saw FA, I knew this was going to happen. The Star Wars writers and producers had the easiest job in the world. A vast wealth of EU lore to rip off from, a low standard in terms of just needing to make a better movie than the prequels, and the massive disney warchest to do whatever the hell they wanted. Not only was it a boring hole-ridden plot, whenever they were presented with the choice to make the movie better or send a progressive political message, they chose politics. This movie was bad to begin with and will not age well compared to the original trilogy.

I didn't like it because it didn't make sense, most of the characters' motivations defied even movie logic and it didn't have a point.

It also fricked up my childhood but this movie was so bad and disjointed that fact actually wouldn't make the top 5 of my complaints.

No dumbass. Fans expected him to be a bigger feature in the movie but I don't think anybody would be complaining if he had the same amount of screen time and the movie was actually good. He has lost touch with reality.

I can get it if you hated The Force Awakens but you can't possibly like them both because the Last Jedi was a direct and not very subtle complete repudiation of TFA.

I have to imagine that Johnson was told that, yes, he had to use the same cast and characters and, no, he couldn't just make a completely different story so he tried to change as much as possible with the restrictions that he was given.

That makes sense to me.

I haven’t seen the movie, but it appears it didn’t work very well.

I'm not even defending the movie. I don't have a problem with anyone liking or hating it. I think that even if you take the quality of the movie out of the equation, the resulting emotional overreaction is equivalent to the "Batman v Superman crowd, or the woman accusing Aziz Anzari of assault. A gross over reaction to a neutral incident which has left some emotionally compromised. Almost all have no perspective in their outrage and internet flagellation. It's turned into collective hate porn and posse raising. It's like an insipid dye has been cast into the American bloodstream that it can't rid itself of. Social Media.

You must be reading different media than I am. The only place I've noticed any outrage is a movie board devoted to talking about the quality of motion pictures.

I know some people linked accusations of sexism, racism, misogyny etc on the part of those who don't like the movie but I think most people would just be happier if they stopped reading outlets that specialize in that type of outrage.

The rave critical reviews for TLJ deserved some backlash. Some people took it too far though.

His opinion on a movie is still an opinion.

And his opinion on a film that he had no part in, is no more valid than any other.

Kevin Smith is a full-on PC-loving, SJW, self-loathing, identity politics-driven, uber liberal.

If TLJ was simply 3 hours of Bruce Jenner becoming a tranny, he would call it a triumph of filmmaking.

I grew up watching Star Wars and watch all of them when they are on TV (even the prequels). I just saw TLJ this past weekend. It was worth my money, but, unlike the previous movies, I just have no interest in seeing it again. It just wasn't a very good movie, much less a very good Star Wars movie.

Why you gotta bring up the porgs. I like the porgs and will fight you IRL over the protection of them. Which Sonic are you closest too?

Me too. Saw it opening day and gave it a C-, really didnt like it much

Saw it again 2 weeks later after my expectations had died down and was really surprised how much i enjoyed it. Gave it a solid B after second viewing.

Ah, the latest attempt to attack people who didn't care for The Last Jedi.

While some people have gone over the top in their reaction to the movie most of us are just saying that its a bad movie. I won't go into why I think this movie stunk on ice, there a few dozen threads on here already where people explain in great detail why it was a bad movie.

To Smith's credit he didn't label everyone who disliked TLJ as a bunch of racist, sexist bigots. That is what has my goat about all of this. I'm disappointed in the movie, but you know what? I made it through the prequels, I can make it through this.

I do not, however, care to be labeled as some sort of card carrying member of the KKK because I thought the Finn and Rose story added nothing to the film other then fluffing up the running time. Nor does saying that I found TLJ's portrayal of Luke to be distasteful make me a misogynistic monster somehow.
