Let's not get it twisted. Her politics and her inability to extricate her beliefs from her job as a trained monkey are absolutely repellent. Watching her sob at the piano when HRC lost the election in 2016 was a delight.

That said, she's funny AF.

Right now she runs the risk of being overexposed due to the commercial spots she's doing. She's on this season's SNL cast, but is down in Australia filming a movie about the Tiger King. She's playing that bitch Carole Baskin.

McKinnon's talent is undeniable and she is easily the most versatile and probably best SNL cast member of the last 5-7 yrs (which isn't saying much), but she has no lane other than what she currently does.

She can't carry a movie, she can't carry a sitcom, and she absolutely can't pull off a dramatic role because she always has to have the "I know this is a joke, and you know I know this is a joke" vibe going in her act.

That works great for SNL, but it's off-putting in just about every other form of media other than Broadway and pitching products with a smirk.

But it doesn't matter. She and Keenan Thompson are going to be on SNL basically till they die or the show goes off the air.

I agree with this.

When she walks around in those commercials, she walks like she has a dick.

Charlize Theron does this in every movie. Lesbos are LARPing hard with the woke action movies lately.

I’m legitimately surprised by this thread. I can’t stand her smarmy attitude and permanent asslicking smirk on her face. I had no idea so many people thought she was the best SNl cast member the past decade.

I don’t understand why everyone loves those first encounter skits either. I find them unwatchable.

shite. Her close encounter skits are fricking hilarious.

You know its good when seasoned actors can't stay in character listening to her. Haven't watched much of her because SNL sucks but those clips are one of the highlights of SNL in the last 20 years.

I mean there are tons of other SNL people to complain about having no talent the last 20 years other than her being at the top of the list.

This ain't the 80s or 90s. If you watch SNL these days, Godspeed and don't complain... You knew what you're getting into.

I only really know her from trying to watch Ghostbusters. Prior to the movie coming out, she was getting really good reviews.

But she and Leslie Jones' characters had me give up on it about halfway in. The script being a blatant ripoff of the original didn't help either.

Kate could be the greatest female comedian ever and she still couldn't have saved that movie.

When the entire script is just a series of sticky notes and the director screaming, "BE FUNNY!" and waiting for actors to spend most of the time improving? Yeah, it was doomed from the start.

Maybe some people have a different sense of humor than you?

This.

Her humor doesn't transfer to feature film that well, but she's perfect for sketch comedy. The politics has dragged her down a bit, as it has most of SNL. Even then, her Giuliani, Fauci, and Jeff Sessions have some life to them, unlike most of the dead impressions on the show.

She's not on their level, but she has a similar gleam in her eye as Ferrell and Belushi. Those guys looked like they were really up to something and that something great could happen at any moment. Few cast members have that spark.

That being said, I don't see her having a top-tier SNL alumni career.

It is ridiculously insulting and moronic to put her name in the same sentence for any reason with those two having to do with talent. You’re out of your mind.

None of her bits or characters were funny,
Her Ellen is funny.

The most cringe was her at the grand piano the Saturday after the 2016 election. I didn't think it was possible to have that level of non-self-awareness.

I said the same thing last week in a different thread about KM. I can't stand her and don't think she is very funny at all. But I do think she's better on SNL than in movies. So she's not a very good actress I guess, and she's a marginal talent on SNL. The fact that she is one of the "better" ones now just shows how far SNL has fallen.

That might be one of the most tonedeaf and pathetic things I’ve ever watched in my life

YT link for anyone who wants to watch it

2016 will be seen as an absolute turning point in America. Our society threw logic and reason and intelligence and civil discourse out the window and replaced it with psychopathy and brazen egotistical ignorance.

And that is certainly not one sided. There are plenty of retarded Trump supporters. We collectively ended civil society in the 2016 election. There’s no going back. We’re now just a simmering pot waiting to boil over.

i've seen some movies with McKinnon where she lands a few funny lines in limited screen time, but she'll forever be a Melissa McCarthy / Jillian Bell / Fat Amy type of actress

even when she's trying to be serious, she still looks like she's being sarcastic
