The female characters in the Expanse are incredible.

How far does the series go in relation to the books? I seem to remember watching at least the first 2 seasons, but can’t remember after that.

There are 9 in the series, but Book 7 starts after a 30-year time jump, so it was a decent place to stop.

Just finished season 5.
**Spoilers**
Killing off Alex was kind of abrupt, and it looked like they did it post-production.
When the scene happened, I thought he was looking at something on his screen that surprised him, and that was why he was staring kind of wide eyed and not answering Bobby's calls. It wasn't until the next scene when Holden talked about his stroke from High G maneuvers.
I know they fired the actor for sexual misconduct during the #MeToo era, and some quick googling shows that he was fired after season 5 wrapped production.

Yeah, I don’t think that was planned in the show. He was accused by something like 30 woman, so they didn’t really have a choice.

I'll second that. He and Homelander have a presence in their scenes it feels like at any moment they could snap like a rubber band and kill everyone in the room for little to no reason, even if they are quiet and in the background.
I read the books in 2024 and never got around to watching the show until I was inside all last weekend. I'm currently on season 2 and I think the best job they did as far as casting compared to what I imagined in the book is Amos. Like you said, he seems like he could snap at any moment and doesn't have any qualms about being violent if needed. They also did a good job of showing how he used Naomi as a moral compass.
They did great with the random filthy belters that pop in an out. When I read the book I imagined they all kind of looked like crackhead homeless people and they nailed that.

Avoiding spoilers, but I finally jumped into this series. Finished S1 last night.
It's nowhere near as good as I hoped it would be, but I am enjoying it though. It is definitely confusing with so much shite going on and so many characters to follow, but that's not a bad thing really.
I think my main gripe about the show is how ridiculous Thomas Jane looks in it, and how badly he acts in it (and I don't normally mind him as an actor). But the whole "I'm trying to be noir with my dumb hat and stupid hair and proto-badass behavior" schtick is tiresome and I hate it.
The rest of the show is good though.

I started watching this over the holidays. Visually excellent, the writing and acting are pretty good. Interesting enough to keep my attention but it's s..l..o...w to develop, not that I was expecting high octane action. I finished season 1 but have left it for a while and will get back to it one of these days.

It’s ok if you stop watching, nothing will change

Season 1 was probably my least favorite season. I stopped after s1 during my first attempt at watching the series, then plowed through on my second attempt. It gets much, much better.

I keep trying to start this show, but can never get past the first two episodes.
I’ve heard how good it is, but just get checked out so quickly.

Just finished season 6.
They really need to finish the whole series. So much more happens in the books that brings things full circle.
Plus this quote by Amos needs to come true
