She was the most convincing "southern"-ish character on the show.

She was born in the Bronx, NYC!

What a talent. I hope this Ozark role doesn't typecast her away from what would otherwise be a very promising future as an extremely talented actor.

The only reason I came across this, I figured she was probably from Georgia or Tennessee or Kentucky, with that accent, perfect accent, looked her up, and damn. NYC.

I thought it was kind of a shitty accent

It might be shitty for the Ozarks proper but it was an excellent Georgia accent, specifically for the area they were filming in. I only looked her up because I just assumed they picked out this chick on a local casting call.

I thought it was pretty good. She really pulls off southern white trailer trash. I may or may not have experience in dealing with such women.

Listen to the southern accents by Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise in "The Green Mile". Laughable.

I felt like it was a good accent, but way overdone for central Missouri.

She's also in Maniac on Netflix, but totally overshadowed by Emma Stone. It was hard to not imagine Ruth while watching her in Maniac, though.

We’re watching that Dirty John show and she plays a Newport Beach teen. I was like holy shite, that’s Ruth. You would never believe it from listening to her.

I agree she is talented and if you look at her recent projects she is as busy as an actress can be with Ozark and other projects so I don't think she will be typecast. In Ozark though very good, I felt her character was a bit emotionally limited. A lot of anger and resentment, conniving and scheming. In season 3 I'd like to see her take an interest in a similar aged man. But she did kill her two Uncles so she'll have to deal with that.

Julia Garner's accent is ok for a girl from the Bronx. I liked the Rachel Garrison character better (Jordana Spiro). For her age (40ish) she is pretty attractive. She also had a reasonable southern accent for a New York City girl. The both had a good twang when they said the F word.

Tom Hanks always does a southern accent like he has peanut butter stuck to the roof of his mouth.

Yep. I somehow haven't seen Ozark yet, but if it's set at the Lake of the Ozarks (about 75 minutes from Columbia) then we sound more like Jason Bateman than Southern MO/Northern Arkansas.

Jordana Spiro is very attractive. For whatever reason, they seem to want the Rachel character to be less attractive than the actress playing her.

she's a drugged out alcoholic lonely barfly that owns a failing rundown restaurant, I'd say they've cast her appropriately. If she looked like a model that wouldn't really be true to life.

Boy they nailed it. She went from looking pretty good to pretty disheveled. It will be interesting to see if she returns. Rachel could easily be written out of the show. The Blue Cat Lounge is now a working bar and barbecue place on Lake Alatoona. The Blue Cat in the show won't be back.
