I can't find a topic on it. Any thought?
There was a thread on it last week, it's on page 3. Don't really know anything about it. But will probably give it a shot at some point.

I watched it.
Very solid movie. I really enjoyed it. Daniel Kaluuya, LaKieth Stanfield, and Jesse Plemons all shine.

I watched it over the weekend and thought it was very good. For those interested you only have like 30 days to watch it on HBOMax before they take it off of there for a while.
I'll second that.

I'll add that Dominique Fishback is really good as well.

I try to avoid white guilt movies and TV. There’s plenty of it out there and it does nothing to help society.

It's not really a white guilt movie. They soft pedal a little bit how violent the Black Panthers really were, but the story focuses on Fred Hampton more than the other leaders of the party. Sure, the white Chicago police are the villains but they did murder Fred Hampton in cold blood, so they're not exactly the kind of folks to stand up for. But in the sense that they were white and guilty, then yes, you are correct.

This movie is not a white guilt movie smdh. It actually shows the good and bad of the black panther movement..doesnt sugarcoat on anything whether its Panthers, Chicago Police, FBI or Hampton himself.

People who jump to baseless conclusions of “WOKE!/SJW!” based on a few promotional snippets are really starting to get annoying.
It’s like when that movie The Hunt came out last year and people jumped to the conclusion that it was anti-conservative, when, if anything, it was anti-Left elitism.

Being uninformed does nothing to help society either.

It’s not even remotely a white guilt movie. There’s actually a really good scene with Fred Hampton and the Young Patriots. Not to spoil it but Hampton preaches to them the togetherness that this society sorely needs right now.

Interesting historical footnote, the major gun control legislation of Ronald Reagan’s governorship of California, the Mulford Act, was designed to disarm LAWFULLY carrying members of the Black Panthers.
It’s almost like there is the potential for overlapping goals for gun rights advocates (historically conservative) and racial minorities (historically liberal).
You’ve got to expand your notions of who your political allies are.

Solid movie. I enjoyed it.
I thought it did a good job of just telling a very interesting story without sugar coating anything.

Out of curiosity, how did you come to the conclusion that this is a movie designed to make white people feel guilty?

Good luck getting an answer from him...

In today's climate, there is no way this movie doesn't twist facts to make the Panthers the heroes. If it didn't, people would be calling it racist. It won't get my money to find out.

Hampton himself is portrayed positively (I have no idea how much they are exaggerating or twisting any facts), but the focus of the story is his betrayal by another black man, cooperating with the FBI. There is no heavy-handed lecturing about the evils of the FBI, because in this case, the facts actually speak for themselves. I don't think it's a controversial opinion that Hampton was assassinated. That's why it's a pretty good movie. There are enough generally accepted facts to make a compelling story without too much hyperbole or "artistic license."
