Some dumb broad at the studio thought this was gonna be an awesome film.
Everybody else knew it would be a disaster.
Wasn't Phoenix the one who steered the direction of the movie?

Paul Schrader (screenwriter for Taxi Driver) said he couldn't last ten minutes before he walked out. About Jaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga:
quote:
“I don’t like either of those people,” he said. “I don’t like them as actors. I don’t like them as characters. I don’t like the whole thing. I mean, those are people who, if they came to your house, you’d slip out the back door.

Not shocked considering this was a movie no one wanted or asked for.

Coming to streaming October 29, LOL. Talk about immediately pulling the plug.
Uncommon for a DC movie, sure. This would be a bigger dunk if 25-30 day theatrical window before a PVOD wasn't pretty standard.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is one of the theatrical success stories of the year. It got a digital release less than a month after its theatrical.

Why did Phoenix do this after he found out how they were going to do it?
Pheonix was opposed to it until they offered him a $20 million payday. Money talks.

It was alright, but I’ll be honest: it wasn’t anything special. It felt like a nostalgia cash grab that was made to profit off nostalgic Gen X moviegoers. And Jenna Ortega is a woke little anti-Trump bitch who sucks arse at acting.

I didn't say it was good. It was definitely made to do just that. But it was released to digital platforms while still making money in theaters.
Universal did something similar with The Fall Guy in May. It started holding better in theaters after it was available at home.

Yeah, it sounds like you're definitely judging her acting talent fairly when you put in a qualifier like that.

Jenna Ortega
Don’t know about all of her views, but she’s all of 22? Sounds like she comes from a pretty good family and she actually cares about the whole acting/movie industry thing. She’s not a little spoiled diva like Rachel Zegler.
Jenna gained some of my respect when she pushed back against the writers of Wednesday when they tried to make her all boy crazy. That ain’t Wednesday.

It's not even just that, not only did they make a movie that no one really wanted they decided to give a middle finger to the fans of the first. Those fans weren't even clamoring for a sequel either. Phillips basically said, if you were a fan of Joker you shouldn't have felt that way so here's two hours degrading the character. Insane.

Writer for Taxi Driver, Paul Schrader, walks out of Joker 2. Zero interest in what he saw.
The movie which was the inspiration for Joker was so uninterested, he left to hit the concession stand, came back, lasted another few minutes, then bailed.
