there is already way too much sympathy for that a-hole.
the whole “you have her eyes” bit is fricking weird. Harry should have been creeped the frick out.

It's like everyone has to have some form of sympathy now. It's like in Rings of Power, one of the dumbest things was when they had to make a sympathy storyline for the Orcs. Orcs! My God it is ok for some characters in a show just be outright bad. Quit throwing in redeeming storylines for people that are just evil.

I haven't cared too much for the adult casting confirmations/rumors so far. I love John Lithgow as an actor but the man will be at least 80 years old when filming finally gets underway. He's way too old and might not survive the series. Mark Rylance would have been a far better casting choice. 10 years ago Lithgow would have been solid. But now? Not so much.
And don't even get me started on the Snape casting choice.

Oh, sorry, I thought the whole point of the series was to create a more authentic and closer to the books adaptation
It can still create a closer to the books adaptation as far as including more of the side-plots that the movies had to cut.
doesn't mean everyone has to look physically more like they were described in the books

I will say this about Snape being black: going to make James Potter look even worse than he does.
This is one of the primary reasons why I have been so against this choice.
Its going to make James AND Harry look like racists.

or it wont. you haven't seen it yet.
I'm sure you'll clutch your pearls either way though.

So, Snape is now a Black man who got bullied by a white guy who also stole his girlfriend, and then snape snaps and goes on to join wizard Nazis. Bold direction.

Snape was more of a villain in the books, I hope they lean into it harder in the series.

Do you think the casting choice makes it easier or harder for them to make Snape even more of a villain. Kind of seems like he's going to be less of one with this casting.

nope, there have been black villains before, not sure why there can't be anymore
I'm sure the SJWs on this board won't like it and will call James a raycist but who really cares what they think?

Do you truly not know the story? Or are just reflexively white knighting for black Snape for ... reasons.
I get the feeling you're just hoping to see Snape carrying around a larger wand.
And who wants to take bets that Snape is gay, and lusted after James, instead of Lily.

Black Snape indicates that they care more about virtue signaling than they do about making a good show.
Honestly, I have the movies, and entertainment seems dead set of retreading everything until fans hate it. Also, there's no way this won't fall apart over the 10 years they plan on completing this. I doubt Lithgow will be the only one whom they'll have to replace,

I'm sure JK feels she doesn't need the money, so whatever the heck the studio wants, she was down.
Feel terrible for the cast though. Imagine a faithful adaptation, book accurate version. Would have been an epic series.

I read all the books over a decade ago. Never reread them.
I dont understand how anyone can say this makes it impossible to accomplish a more book accurate story tho.
There is much more to being book accurate than looks.
The series will be around 5x longer per book than the movies. It still stands to reason they can include a lot of things the movies left out from the books.
There is more to the books than Snapes skin color (they are keeping his hair).

You're lying. Snape's features were described in great detail. Pale, white skin, long, greasy hair...very sullen, off putting demeanor and look.

A meaningless, toss away statement. The books and the movies were insanely popular for what they were in their presented form. As JK herself wrote them, before she was a multi billionaire and then a major success with the movies.
quote:Snape is one of the central figures of the entire series. This doesn't improve the story one iota. Why not introduce a new character? Same as we've seen with Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, on and on. Yet ANOTHER race swap for zero substantive, creative reasons.

See above. And then he longed for Lily, was bullied by James. How 'book accurate' are they going to do certain scenes? Like how James levitated Snape upside down? Think that might be problematic?
As Drinker says...

Only to the pearl clutchers and sjws
Being more book accurate as a hole doesnt mean every single detail is more book accurate...
If the show contains more things from the book than the movies it will still be more book accurate than the movies despite snape's appearance being less accurate.
They said MORE book authentic, not 100% book accurate

It's the identity & race of a primary character. If it's such a minor detail, why even do it? You can't have it both ways.

This is a massive turn to LESS accurate, for no discernable reason.
You honestly think that a black character being portrayed as a white one would garner any backlash? Hell yes, it would.

Lol this isnt a pearl clutching battle. Who cares?
Ill leave it to the idiots to get mad over that kinda stuff.

I've lost count how many times you've used that response, which doesn't address anything. This shows you've got nothing, and are just taking a contrarian position for the sake of being able to post ... something.

Why? This is like the 2nd casting. If they don't want to act around a black Snape then they don't have to be in the show/accept a role.
