A. She's a serial killer framing everyone.
B. She made a deal with the devil and traded her fame to be surrounded by death.
C. Each episode is a book and she's telling us the story through her eyes.
D. She was on a flight and this went through her head just as her plane exploded.

I'm leaning C.

If I was going to commit a murder, I'd find her and kill her first.

The show took place in a single town in Maine. The village it was based on has a population of about 1,000. Over 12 seasons, 286 people died. And while not every episode took place in Cabot Cove, you would think after a few years, the people living there would be freaking out. At least the Sherriff would be shitcanned.

Cabot Cove is a witness protection program community populated by violent criminals who have testified against organized crime organizations. Jessica Fletcher is a "prison matron" tasked with keeping the citizenry from descending into full out mayhem.

Yesterday I started my 10th consecutive rewatch of Murder, She Wrote. At this point, I figure I will do at least 12, one for each season.

The Murder, She Wrote festival was held this weekend in Mendocino. I’ve calendared it for next year and hope to attend.

She moved to Ireland to get her daughter out of California after she fell in with a bad crowd. The bad crowd was the Manson family.

I’m tired of seeing people complain about crime in NOLA, BR, and Shreveport. Cabot Cove was the most dangerous town in America, maybe the world.

I remember some folks giving the stats on it, and yes... Cabot Cove would have, by FAR, the highest murder per capita rate in the US and probably the world.

Apparently, only 54 of the episodes are set in Cabot Cove. They amount to approximately 60 murders, or 5 murders per year (presuming over the12 year stretch of the show). That puts the muder rate at 140.4 per hundred thousand (as Cabot Cove had a population of 3560; I'm guessing the birth rate was also exceptionally low, unless a lot of old people lived there and died to offset it as the population remains unchanged).

St. Louis, the highest murder rate in the US in 2025, was 87.2; as a matter of fact, that rate would make Cabot Cove the third deadliest city in the world - only Colima, Mexico (181.94) and Duran, Ecuador (148) are higher.

Cabot Cove is an exceptionally dangerous place. That can’t be disputed. Lots of smuggling and blackmail as well.

That said, a number of the Cabot Cove episode murders did not occur in the city and were not committed by Cabot Cove residents. Death Rides the Bus, the boarding school/Prometheus Society episode, and retired cop/unsolved murder come to mind.

You did your research. Also, I would have thought Midsomer, England might have had a higher murder rate, but not even close. Cabot Cove is #1.

Definitely A

My Dad, "God rest his soul," commented one day while my Mom, "God rest her soul as well," was watching this, and I quote, "How many more people can die in that fricking town?"
