One of my first big teen crushes was of Wilma Deering played by the incredibly gorgeous Erin Gray

Cynthia rothrock used to pick me up from school.
Mid 80s. She shared a studio with George Chung in Los Gatos CA. America’s Best Karate. He taught Taekwondo. She taught Kung Fu. I was George’s youngest black belt at he time. They were dating. They used to pick me up 3 times a week. My mom wasn’t the greatest…

I mean she's not even the first female action star named Jennifer of the 21st Century. Jennifer Garner played Elektra in Daredevil and the Elektra movie before JLaw was even known as the daughter from The Bill Engvall Show.

Wilma Deering was the subject of many of my pre-teen fantasies....

You know if conservatives had a brain for reestablishing culture or pop culture, they’d have promoted The Hunger Games. Granted Lawrrance was insufferable so in a way I get it.
Picture this though: You have a female lead from the poorest area of the country that takes part against the liberal, evil pink and blue haired people of the capital, that drink Ipecac so they can indulge in more food without being full. She then goes against the capital because she loved her family.
Sounds pretty much like a conservative tale imo

Katniss was obviously not the first female action hero. Ripley in Alien(s) obviously comes to mind as an earlier action role.
But a LOT of the others posted in this thread were not remotely action hero roles ... rather glorified cheesecake opportunities to have attractive young women prance about in revealing costumes. Barbarella? Really?

"glorified cheesecake opportunities
Barbarella"
Terrible movie and a despicable human being in the lead role. She shouldn't have ever worked again in Hollywood after what she pulled.

Hanoi Jane is absolutely a reprehensible human being. That said, she was extraordinarily attractive in that role and those washboard abs are the stuff of legend.

Remember when female heroines were feminine but smart, complex and tough with actual character arcs instead of frumpy Marry Sues like the character Lawrence played in HG? Movies used to be good.

Don’t get me wrong she was a smoke show in that movie but give mean Jeannie Bell in TNT Jackson all day any day.

That's where I'd put Margot Robbie & Gal Gadot.

quote:As crazy as it may sound, I think her career as an A list actress is basically over. She had a nice run, but Harvey was her patron and he and his deformed nads are in jail now, so she's not getting the parts she used to. She's not a box office draw, Red Sparrow was her big test and she/it failed.
Winter's Bone is her best acting job because boy did she fool a lot of people.
