Not a pleasant conversation
I honestly credit the video game in 2008 for bringing the franchise back. It had slowly faded. The most you'd seen out of it was failed attempts at a 3rd movie in the late 90s, some merchandise for the 20th anniversary in 2004, and that's mostly it. The video game started making it popular again.

But he has also been open to the idea. Would love to see it.
Would be the most epic comeback. Maybe ever.

Hes done voice work since '97. Done comedy music albums. Hes very very slowly started coming back in to the spotlight. Not like most celebrities are in the spotlight, but hes less of a recluse now.

shouldve made a third one with original cast a long time ago

Should've been done in the 90s. Murray was the biggest hold out. The basic way it worked was Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Reitman each held a certain amount of rights to it. They couldn't really do it without all of them being in on it. Murray was also not happy with how Ghostbusters 2 ended up because the studio didnt follow through on promises made when it came to the script. Ghostbusters 2 was driven more by the popularity of The Real Ghostbusters show. They wanted to link it more to that style which is why it was more lighthearted than the original.

The remaining original cast is super old and fat and depressing.
Winston would tear you a new a-hole without even putting his cigarette down.

Ummm... no. The vast majority of moviegoers weren’t familiar with the cartoon.

The popularity of the show is what made them push for the sequel. They were making money off of that and the Kenner toy line and it was just a reason to try and make more money off of the brand. Theres a reason Slimer is hanging around the firehouse and helps Louis. Because he was a popular character in RGB.

And dont mistake what I mean, the studio was interested in a sequel after the first film was so successful. But, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Reitman weren't really in to the idea. The show came out in 1986 and was at the height if its popularity in 88/89. The success of the show and the toy line(and even still the success of the first film) is what made them really start pushing for it.
Edit:I should probably have worded better. I didn't mean the movie was based off of RGB. I meant that it was an influence on the decision to push for it and elements of it were included in the film(such as slimer hanging around the firehouse)

But it did start a conversation, and that’s key.
The only conversation it started was about how bad the movie sucked.

Hear me out....Jason Reitman directs the old Apatow crew....Paul Rudd, Jason Siegel, Steve Carrell, Daryl Robinson....in a Ghostbusters movie.
That doesn't sound terrible but I still find the style of comedy between those guys to not be subtle enough. Comedy is so obnoxious and over the top these days.
The original Ghostbusters had a good serious/comedy vibe. They could seem dead serious even in comedic acts. Just seems too many actors (think Marvel) appear as if they know it's all a joke.

Agree. The original was so good because most of the comedy was delivered pretty dryly. Another reason why the female version was a failure, it was the typical cliche slapstick attempt and it didn't work.
I think the actors listed (Siegel is a good choice, Rudd too) could probably do it with the right director.

The original had an incredible group. Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, Reitman...just those names alone give you Blues Brothers, Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Meatballs, Groundhog Day....and when they were all together or some of them together it was just a perfect storm for greatness. You cant beat that or recreate it.

And, they seriously rushed the script and production due to a writer's strike in 1988. The movie is not as good as the original. But, it's amazing it's as good as it is, given the compressed schedule they were given.

Its pretty much a copy of the original. Something happens to Dana. She goes to the Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters investigate. Business picks up. Montage. Bad guy stuff starts happening. Something really big walks down the streets of NYC. They win and walk out to cheering crowds.
One thing that always bothered me was the amount of people that considered them frauds. Because, you know, people conveniently forgot the big fricking Stay Puft Marshmallow Man walking down the street.
Also the logo. Sure, if it were just used outside of the movie for promotional stuff it works. In the film itself it makes no sense

Yes, even as a 13-year old watching the movie in the theater this seemed ridiculous. Like I said, it's not as good as the original, but I still have a soft spot for the movie. The courtroom scene is my favorite part of the movie.

The Scoleri Brothers were great. I enjoy Ghostbusters 2. I dont have any hatred towards it. Was it a little ridiculous in some ways? Absolutely. But it's a movie about people busting ghosts. The entire idea is ridiculous and fun and I have always loved it and always will. My room was filled to the brim with Ghostbusters stuff growing up. And it's even more full now.
I will be there for opening night. I will be in California in June for the fan fest celebrating then 35th/30th anniversaries. I've met people involved with the films and expanded universe and consider many of them friends now. At 32 years old my passion for it has not dwindled even a little.
