Ehhhh.

I’m sure it will be decent, but this just renewed my wishing shadow recruit could have had more movies to it. Felt they did a damned good job of setting up the Ryan character.

This one seems to be leaning a little too hard on the “action hero” version.

They've been promoting this shite for like 2 years already. Get on with it.

Right, which of course, Ryan never really was.

Perfectly good John Clark movie out there that's been held on the shelf for decades...

I enjoy the Mitch Rapp books, but there would be no Mitch Rapp if Clancy hadn't created John Clark.

So basically, someone needs to have the balls to make Without Remorse into a movie.

Why doesn’t this happen already?

I don't get it either. I guess you'd have to update it some but I'd be excited to see it.

I had forgotten all about this since it’s been so long since it’s been announced and there’s been no real hype for it

Right up until he was. Those books always came down to Ryan going John McCLane in the end.

I wouldn't say John McClane. Maybe in The Patriot. Typically he'd be involved in some action but like for two chapters and it wasn't like he was a superhero. I thought Clancy balanced it real well in the books.

Got a bad feeling this will be more Jack Bauer than Jack Ryan.

This.

Clear and Present Danger (Harrison Ford) really captured the Jack Ryan character the best....all analyst...very very little action hero.

They’d have been better off doing a John Clark series

Or you know, one with both. Jack the analyst, Clark the operative. Worked pretty good in the books.

Without Remorse could play as a mini series. Do the first season as that story. There’s all kinds of things you could play off of that Clark clearly did before he meets Ryan during the events of Clear and Present Danger. Suprised Clancy never went back and filled in some of those stories. Clark was a ruthless SOB.

Except for more than half of the series where it doesn’t?

Unless you meant John McClane being a badass in a boardroom?

There is a sequence of like 5-6 books straight where he is working at too high a level for direct action.

Unless you are referring to stuff like him being bait while a subordinate is the actual hero, or him choosing to spectate in a dangerous situation ala the Aegis cruiser in the Washington evacuation.

After he gets established (particularly after patriot games) the character is fairly settled down. He sends Clark to be his badass on retainer. If an actual president would ever do what he did at the end of Executive Orders it would be one of the most badass things to occur in American history.

Idk how I feel about the evolution of guys like Krasinksi and Pratt into action stars. I just can't seem to shake them from the initial roles they played.

That is the way it's suppose to be, I cringe every time the make Jack Ryan into something he's not.

25 years they’ve been trying to make that movie. Seems like the last attempt had Tom Hardy attached but it died like the rest of the attempts.

Rainbow 6 looked close to being a real thing last year with Ryan Reynolds attached but haven’t heard anything lately.

I do not want to see Rainbow 6 turned into a movie. The bad guys were environmentalists. You know they will not have that be the case in the movie. It will be like how they changed the protagonists from Palestinian terrorists to Neo Nazis in Sum of all Fears.

It kinda pisses me off to think that if they do make it, people will think a 20+ year plot was derivative of MCU's Thanos.

But I don't think we will ever see a Without Remorse movie. One problem is the synopsis. In today's risk adverse Hollywood, lets make a movie where the audience needs to connect with a guy who falls in love with a hooker who then gets murdered by her pimp and he goes on a torturing killing spree to avenge her.
