ive been on a south park kick and watched this for the first time in a few years. and wow, it still holds up really well and if anything its themes get across even better. a movie dedicated solely on criticizing censorship, scapegoating, and culture wars that is also gut bustlingly funny with legitimately catchy and interesting songs is sorely needed now

South Park is good. South Park is funny. South Park often anticipates or satires our culture well. More at 10.

South Park predicted everything that's happening today like 20-25 years ago.
We're actually only a few months away from the 25th anniversary of Cartman Gets an Anal Probe. I still watch old school South Park regularly, mostly seasons 2-8 but I love all the classic episodes from later on as well.

They were ahead of their time

Team America was even more relevant.

I'm sorry all I read was ...

I just rewatched the movie tonight too actually. Matt and Trey need to be protected at all costs

I am binging it right now. I’m only up to season 12, which is around 2008. It is scary how the things they were doing then that seemed absurd at the time is what we are living in real time now.

to be fair - anyone with an ounce of common sense, paying any attention, with a set of balls, creativity, and a platform could have done what they did
Millions of us had the common sense and were paying attention
Matt and Trey had the balls and the platform with the talent to pull it off

The way you framed this is taking away credit from these guys.
I disagree, that anyone could have the impact of Trey and Matt, which btw they continue to do. They not only had creativity, platform, etc, set of balls they single handily changed animation and showed everyone you can literally have a show with cardboard and elmer's glue as long as it was funny, resonated, and had some great writing.
Their genius was known early on (Check out Cannibal! The Musical from 1993)
So no, I don't think it's fair at all to suggest anyone with their resources could do what they did. They are a national treasure.
That's like saying anyone with MTV distribution access and enough balls in the 1990s could have been Mike Judge. Not at all.

I didn’t say that did I
I said
1. Common sense
2. Paying attention (this is where the best of us stop)
They ALSO had
3. The balls
4. The creativity (aka the genius as you said)
5. The resources (platform)
Those three things set them apart. I’m not underselling them. My point was that they weren’t “psychic”…that they had used their common sense and attention to cultural details to easily predict where all this was headed years ago

You could apply that logic to just about anything.
Anyone could do what Elon Musk has done. He just had common sense, and was paying attention to the direction of where energy is heading. He also had the balls to do it, the genius creativity, and resources.

Sure
That just goes to prove my point
It’s extremely rare to have all 5 going for a person

What’s your point? I’m still not sure.
Those “extra” qualities that are rare negate your statement that anybody could do what they did.

I clearly stated it above. There were posts saying South Park Predicted the Future.
I responded - not really - they just had common sense and were paying attention. That, combined with the rest, made them rare and able to communicate what the rest of us clearly saw.

Another good example of this is the Simpsons episode where Homer gets accused of sexual assault by the baby sitter, it called the #MeToo garbage like 25 years ahead of time.

Oh I see. I thought you were referring to South Park as a whole.
