I never tried out Ozark cuz im not really into suspenseful dramas (especially knowing there are multiple seasons before I start the show). Yet somehow Bateman has kept me locked in the first 2 seasons the past 2 weeks and ready for season 3

So between this and arrested development im starting to think he is honestly just really good at keeping an audience engaged. That being said, he has had a few box office performances that didnt go as well. It seems like he struggles going from tv series to blockbuster movies

I'm can't recall too many Jason Bateman roles, but he seems to do well playing the calm straight man. Has he had a good role out of that type character?

I don’t think he’s an incredible actor or anything, but he’s s really good every-man type of performer. I can’t think of a performance from him where I thought he was shite.

This is a good answer. Great everyman. He's not winning oscars, but has an excellent sense of humor, delivery, and timing. And like most funny people, does well in dramatic roles.

Probably the best thing about Ozark.

Liked him a lot in Hancock.

It's a fun, funny, extremely rewatchable movie with some touching type moments. What's not to like? Is it perfect? No. But people who don't like it for what it is are wrong.

I agree. He's not a grade A actor but if you take the totality of his acting, directing and production in Ozark it is impressive. I'd say his acting technique is the weakest link but is good enough.

I love the guy one of my favorite actors based on personality and just being able to make me fall out of my chair with his dry witted humor and demeanor.
I compare him to Paul Rudd obviously some different type roles but similar styles and a delivery that makes me laugh at anything he is in.

Underated

I never thought he would be able to pull off a serious roll. Just figured he would always be the sarcastic jackass, which he is good at

I was wrong. He nailed Ozark.... He is very good

If you need a character who wears jeans/khakis with a button down polo and rolled up sleeves, Bateman is the guy for it

underrated because though he's one of the best at playing the everyman, calm, straight guy

He's also great at playing the subtle a-hole, see Juno and the film The Gift.

He can be REALLY hateable as a character

I think The Gift shows that he has the range to be more than just the calm, straight-laced, loving dad type. He was a fantastic element in that film’s slow, steady build to a high intensity setting. That took a lot of subtly and strong acting to pull off.

That said, he clearly doesn’t have the range of someone like Christian Bale. But he’s more than just a simple plug in for one specific type of character IMO.

Underrated - He is a solid actor with a good range.

He's super likeable on screen.
