One of these is not like the others. That’s just a shite sandwich of a film.
I agree. The Flinstone movie did suck

I’d agree 1994 is goat but why the frick is Flintstones, mighty ducks 2 and some others on that list?
Personally, I wasn't able to appreciate 94's greatness until I was a little older, early 20s or so.
But I was 8 at the time and I was loving the flintstones and MD 2 at the time so I'm good with that being on there.
That year was great for me as a kid and an adult.

The 80s was the best decade for movies imo for many reasons. Not least of which was the use of practical effects was very well done and overuse of CGI wasn’t a thing yet.

What makes 1994 so great is that it took what was burbling under the surface and it exploded into the mainstream. Hell, it even had the completion of the Trois Coleurs trilogy, so it was doing great in the foreign film/Cannes bucket as well.
But what's funny is that the kings of indie cinema released one of their biggest bombs. Now, I love Hudsucker Proxy, but most would classify it as a lesser Coen brothers. And for this great year in which the indies went Hollywood, the kings of that sandbox (to use their metaphor) were largely absent.
Since we brought it up on the other Best Year thread, 1999 was such a closing of the era. We thought it was a stepping stone when in fact it was the last gasp. But what a way to go:
The Matrix
Fight Club
Eyes Wide Shut
American Beauty (ugh)
The Sixth Sense
Office Space
Toy Story 2
Magnolia
Boondock Saints
Girl, Interrupted
Being John Malkovich
Never Been Kissed
the Virgin Suicides
The Iron Giant
Galaxy Quest
Blair Witch Project
Dogma
Man in the Moon
Existenz
The Insider
Payback
Stir of Echoes
Boys Don't Cry
Mystery Men
Three Kings
Election
Go
Audition
The Straight Story
South Park
Pushing Tin
Bowfinger
Bringing Out the Dead (the only underrated Scorcese film)
Ghost Dog
Dick
All About My Mother
Arlington Road
Muppets From Space
Titus
200 Cigarettes
The Limey
Cradle will Rock
Julien Donkey Boy
I mean, just a spectacular, varied year.

You put the "ugh" by the wrong movie.
It's supposed to go next to Boondock Saints.

I thought we'd reached a point where no one thinks Boondock Saints is actually good, its just good, dumb fun. American Beauty will always have an Oscar.

I would protest, but I watched Sabotage, a Hitchcock film from 1935 last night. Of the last five films I've watched, all this week, the MOST recent was from 1996. The next most recent was from 1976. So... this checks out.
