She looks like she would be a sad puppy dog in a Warner Brothers cartoon.

I crushed on her in Donnie Darko. And I don't ordinarily think she's ugly, but she just looked like an old lady in that movie.

Jack was the standard for how Joker should be portrayed.

No it shouldn't. It was Jack acting as Jack in goofy arse make-up and costumes.

now I am not trying to argue that she is hot but there are certain times she looks pretty decent bordering on cute

He only gets shite on because ledger hit it out of the park. He was a bit too old and a bit too overweight for the part at the time. Now jack in 1980 would've been great

Everyone forgets this. Chow was on top of the mountain of money when Joker sets it on fire. It took my second time watching the movie to see but I was like holy shite when I did.

Go back and watch how the violence is shot. Similar to joker shotgunning that cop in the face, or the two dudes killing each other with pool cues

They had to shoot it a certain way to guarantee a pg13 rating, but they did it in an effective mannerr. There is tons of carnage and no blood. Great filmmaking

I had a positive reaction but reading Adrian Brody was being considered for the role had me intrigued

I was thinking they were going with a more classical Joker. So I was a bit upset that they didnt choose Paul Bettany at the time. I was wrong.

I always said that Jack did a great job in Burtons vision. But "THe Shining" Jack could have easily pulled off Nolan's Joker as well.

As good as Heath was, he did not provide the definitive version of the Joker; that honor goes to Mark Hamill. Heath was the perfect Joker for Nolan's universe, but he's lacking on a lot of aspects that make the Joker the Joker. The Joker isn't really all that funny in Nolan's version, simply just terrifying

I grew up reading Batman comics. The Joker isn't traditionally funny. He's absurd. He's absolutely terrifying, but that's because he's virtually impossible to predict. He's an agent of pure, unmitigated chaos and has no real goal but to cause that chaos. He employs gag items, absolutely, but the humor derived from them is because of their absurdity. So while Ledger's depiction was perhaps not PERFECT, I don't think that it's so far removed from the Batman canon. If you look at your 3rd paragraph, I could see Ledger's Joker doing all of those things.

I love the people complaining that Ledger would suck because he played a gay character in Brokeback.

God, people are fricking stupid sometimes.

When I heard Ledger was cast, I didn't like the choice at all, but I wanted to trust Nolan. I wanted Paul Bettany. When I first saw the makeup, I thought it looked awful. When I saw the first teaser, and heard his voice for the first time, I said it was too over the top. I didn't get optimistic til I saw the first full trailer, and saw the Joker walking down a city street with machine gun...thought it looked pretty boss. Saw the movie, and was mesmerized by him, thought at the time, and still do think, he's one of the best film villains ever.

Or the scene with the knife in the black gangster's mouth.

Definitely.
