Your anecdotal logic doesn’t hold.

lmao. Thanks, counselor.

Again, removing the “want to see” and replacing it with a verified user system dramatically reduces the people who can just create an account and review bomb a film.

Anyway, I’ve had enough of this. I’ll report back after I’ve seen the film.

Don't you believe that's still an upwardly rigged number?

Not really. If anything it is likely downwardly rigged. Its one of the movies that people really started “review bombing” on.

I think a 60% would likely make more sense. Lots of people don’t like it, yes. But that was mostly hardcore loud fans. Casual people didn’t hate it that much. And its some people’s favorite of the sequels. An angry fan is way more likely to leave a review than someone who came away feeling neutral or liking a movie.

Again you make statements you can’t account for. Your talking points seem borrowed since you can’t back them up with anything except more borrowed talking points. Hope you enjoy the movie but then again I already know what your opinion will be.

Well when websites like IMB and Rotten tomatoes admit to altering their rating systems, for Disney no less, and how easy it is to create fake accounts to flood them with reviews, pretending it doesn’t happen seems like you’re in denial.

idk how INFb does it but RT’s verified system seems like as good as you can get to verify that you actually went to the movie.

I thought the tampering was well known. Guess not.

RT has also changed ownership in recent years. They were bought by Fandango in 2016, which is owned by Comcast.

But yeah, there's no way Fandango would desire to overrate big tentpole movies.

And speaking of tentpoles, any movie of this scope and marketing, powered by a major company like Disney, would crush it at the box office if it was an objectively good movie. There are no diamonds in the rough when you're talking about $300 mil. movies.

Deadline reported IMDb added a note that not all votes have the same weight on the final rating, but they didn’t want to say how they calculated the score. Essentially, IMDb admits they decided to alter the numbers in an arbitrary way.

The question I have is what makes someone want to simp for bad movies, big studios and bombing “blockbusters”?

In general the integrity of any system depends on the incentives. I don't know how there wouldn't be an incredible incentive to upwardly manipulate everything possible.

This isn't new to the internet era. Big and small talk shows have always had to provide positive press or they lose access or worse (get fired or cancelled). Even the biggest talk show hosts usually have to promote the typical movies.

Corporations have big incentives to reduce most people's ability to express a negative opinion. When it comes to profits? Everything from claiming negative reviews are fake to negative reviews are unacceptable (insert "ism" accusation here) is the knee jerk response of the corporate behemoths and their millionaire employees.

Mostly it tends to be bullshite. People don't bother hating movies unless they would have fricking loved the movie if it were better made. That's the reasonable interpretation of fan response to pretty much all of Disney's recent failures. The negative reviews are legitimate hatred of movies those same people wanted to love, watch repeatedly, and buy the merchandise for their kids.

Who cares? When they crash and burn at the box office, all the simping in the world won't matter.

Cultural affiliation is my general belief. These are often well intending people who have fallen into the trap of team sport.

Obviously there are tons of those on both sides. But the weird part is when you have people attacking the likes of nerds and geeks who just really didn't want their favorite stories retroactively destroyed.

At same point you have to wonder if some of them are less political and more malicious. Rian Johnson is allowed to hate Star Wars and The Force Awakens. But if he needed to turn down the project instead of sabotage it.

Pretty much spot on especially about the malice. Kennedy hates these legacy characters and it shows.

Watch out. If you like it, you’re apparently going to be called a charlatan at best.

James Mangold is too good a writer/director for this movie to flop without some kind of outside interference.

It’s easy, he made an ideological movie.

It’s a good movie. I just saw it. Much better than Crystal Skull. Critics are wrong. Again.
