Also heard a high ranking leader in it looks a lot like someone that rhymes with Skillary Finton.

So? You won't ever be able to enjoy anything dragging that kind of baggage into everything you experience.

I assume you're talking about this character.

That looks as much like Newt Gingrich as it does Hillary.

Like in the original, the SJW stuff is actually relegated to the villain, so no. Syndrome for all intents and purposes is an SJW gone horribly, horribly wrong.

I don't want to see this movie bad enough I guess. If I really want to see a movie I really will ignore it unless it's obvious.

I don't know what character because I haven't seen the movie.

Maybe really minor spoilers

I mean the mom is the breadwinner while the dad stays at home with the kids for a bit. He obviously struggles with this initially as he’s not providing and with the kids all the time and she’s kinda portrayed as super mom I guess. Hell If that offends someone I don’t know what to tell them. Feel like the idea of “super mom “ has been present in entertainment since it started.

Semi spoilers:

The villain tries to use feminism to manipulate others. The plot itself has nothing to do with men vs women at all much less takes a position on gender equality.

Man I miss the 80s when these offensive ideas were unheard of

I miss the COLD WAR too! It was US against the Ruskies for decades..The music was better, people got along much better, no one had a cell phone shoved up their arse....

The 1980's were definitely better

I don't think there are feminist themes unless you are just overly sensitive and are looking to get offended. There are characters that bond over the fact that they are both women and there is some rivaly between the sexes present, but that existed in the first film and no one complained.

And yeah, they play up the "dad doesn't know how to run the house" routine but it makes sense within the story. She's been a house wife, presumably, for their entire marriage and he's been in the work force. She should be better at running the house than him.

Yeah we reminisce about the 80's only remembering stuff like The Right Stuff, Commando, Rocky IV, Rambo - all this macho stuff.

And forget Mr. Mom, Tootsie and as you point out a former baseball player who is now the maid and housekeeper to some rich high-powered female executive.

And there were a lot of heroines in the 80's from the Legend of Billie Jean all the way up to Ripley.

Heard there might be a dose of SJW shoehorned into this movie. Right or wrong?

Wrong. It's common family fare. My kids enjoyed it and it had enough adult humor to keep my attention.

There was a clear feminist message, I don’t think anyone who actually watched the movie could deny that - they openly discussed it

With that said - it wasn’t the modern SJW type feminism but the older more traditional type focused on female empowerment and worth...so it wasn’t annoying or shoehorned. It was central to the actual plot of the movie.

It was a good movie so watch it, and ignore all these other posters denying the very very obvious point of the movie.

Well that’s just wrong. There were CLEAR feminists themes, but they FIT the plot and made sense.

This thread is convoluting female empowerment with the larger retarded SJW movement

With the villain. It’s like saying the Incredibles is about equality and mediocrity. If anything, I think the message is the importance of fathers.

It is literally one conversation with the villain using “girl power” to try and manipulate elastigirl. That’s not a theme or a plot.

Which is why the "feminist" moniker is problematic now.

And people are right, there are activities out there now that sides have forced into political positions regardless of the real politics behind them. That's why the 80's stuff is ok and now it isn't.

It wasn't political then, because nobody was making Mr. Mom political. It was a small movie of a small slice of life, and that's the way we used to look at it. (Well, it was also novel and got its humor from that very conceit).

Now? Everyone has to be pro or anti something. You can't buy a chicken sandwich without supporting some cause. So no, in the current climate we can't just enjoy things. Even if we ignore them, then you are "part of the problem."

There is very little chance we ever get back to those older perspectives.
