But, 2001 and A Clockwork Orange(didn't notice it on the list before) are both unwatchable messes. 2001 is definitely not as bad as ACO. I'll give it that.
Let me write you down as someone's opinion on film I will never take seriously. They're both masterpieces and Clockwork would probably make my Top 10. The shots, tension, and themes in both films are nearly unrivaled. They're Kubrick's 2 best films (with only Dr Strangelove as a challenger).

Neither are really in the same subgenre, but just throwing them out there because they are both more worthy of that list than 2001.
Ok, so the most influential sci-fi film of all time doesn't deserve to be on the Top 100 Sci-Fi films of all time list. Save for Metropolis and a very few others sprinkled in, it influenced every single entry on that list. Aside from some saying Metropolis, I don't think any major filmmaker would dispute that 2001 is the greatest sci-fi film of all time.

2 movies I can name that didn't even make the list that are far superior to 2001 in every way are:
1.The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
2. Pandorum
Oh my.

Can't help it man. I actually love sci fi and pretty much every subgenre of sci fi. I can't say I've watched every single film on the list, but I've watched most of them. And I don't have a problem with any of them on the list...except for those 2 turds.

First Transformers was fun to watch because of the effects and Megan Fox. But the rest were crap.

Then I can just about assure you, your favorite films on the list wouldn't exist at all. Here's what Lucas had to say about 2001:
quote:
Stanley Kubrick made the ultimate science fiction movie, and it is going to be very hard for someone to come along and make a better movie, as far as I'm concerned. On a technical level, it can be compared, but personally I think that '2001' is far superior.
So, yeah, one of the primary influences of almost every sci fi movie ever made is clearly shite.

Every greatest of all time athlete, movie, musician, etc. was was influenced by something or someone. But, that doesn't make the "influencer" great.

Long plodding pointless scenes.
You didn't get the point. They weren't pointless.
I kind of hate the "you just didn't get it" critique of other's taste, but seriously, you just didn't get it. It went over your head. There is a lot of deliberate depth that you are missing out on. It still might not be your cup of tea, but that is a far cry from what you are claiming.

Yeah, you're a troll.

I got it. I really did. The point of many of the scenes were made and yet were dragged on and on. Sloppy. And I have no problem with long marathon type movies. But, I don't appreciate movies that are long for the sake of being long.
What makes it worse is that the story was very good for the most part. The making of the film is what is so terrible.

No, you didn't. And I can tell by your criticism. You wouldn't be making your criticism if you actually understood it, seeing as you are criticizing the point.

I understand your struggle, but that's like judging The Godfather 1 & 2 and The Indiana Jones trilogy based on what comes next...

You don't have to love or like these movies, but to claims them as "unwatchable" and terrible messes, just know no one on here is going to take you seriously anymore

Not a bad list. There are a couple I might have added and a few I think are terribly overrated, but that's just opinion.
I've seen all but 17 of these, incidentally. I counted. Does that make me a nerd?

While I get this point, G1 and G2 were close in time and thematically related. The Indiana Jones sequels had enough time between Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and WTF Does Indy have to do with Russians and Aliens? - much easier to separate the wheat from the chaff.
The Matrix sequels were like watching train wrecks. And that was a trilogy by design - the last 2 were released the same year.
