If you could be lord of one of the Seven Kingdoms...

Which would you pick and why?
For me it's a toss-up between the Reach and the Vale. Do I want to be rich, fat, and happy or nearly unassailable and slightly less rich?
I'd probably go with the former.
ETA: A map for those who might be in need. And for fairness' sake let's count the Iron Islands and the Riverlands as one, since they were originally one kingdom and no one would pick one or the other otherwise.

Would want to be an Umber or a Tarley or something so I could just switch allegiances if my side was losing.

Westerlands because that is where all the Gold mines are. On the TV show tywin says the gold mines are barren but there is not evidence that that is true in the books.

Dorne- they were never conquered

This, it's not even debatable.

Dorne or the Vale
Both are difficult to conquer.

I’d want to be a Lannister.

Highgarden, by leaps and bounds. Good weather without being hot-blooded and overly-emotional like the "how you say? ah yes!" swarthy bisexual figs of Dorne - fertile, plentiful food, slutty liberal women, art, music and shitloads of wine. There's a reason the original lord Garth strangely resembles Bacchus.
The Reach is where it's at.

You want to be one of the Wardens (minus Winterfell and the Vale bc frick it's cold), more power, so it's either Casterly Rock or Highgarden. Give me the Westerlands. You can still mine for gold when there is a long winter and nothing grows. Plus every other house knows not to screw with you.

I don't see the Reach or the Vale on the map.
Nevermind. I'm a dingbat

You make quite the compelling case.

The Vale or Dorne. Probably Dorne. Better weather and merchant options being so close to Essos. Also not very easy to assail because of the mountain range and desert to the West.

Dorne. The Starks keep blathering on that winter is coming, and I'm not a fan of shoveling snow.

Dorne has the hottest and craziest bitches.

High Garden is a good pick.
I would argue that the Riverlands are strategically placed. You would own Riverrun, Harrenhall, and the Twins... But frick the Freys

The Vale is by far the hardest to overthrow and it has one of the best armies. Highgarden would probably be the most fun though.
