I signed up with HBO for Game of Thrones, but Chernobyl is the real prize

Excellent mini-series and a fantastic way to move on from GOT’s less than good season.
Top notch acting, some 80’s nostalgia, and realistic effects. Highly recommend.

The creeping horror of knowing that the killer is everywhere, in everything, but not being able to see it or hear it is almost unbearable and I love it. When that firefighter picked up that piece of graphite and casually threw it aside without reacting, knowing he just died was worse than any horror movie death scene from the last 20 years.

I completely agree; the plan was to cancel my subscription after GOT ended but Chernobyl has me holding on.

Yep. Barry is pretty Goddamn good too. NoHo Hank is one of the greatest supporting characters in the last several years.

I love it so far. I've been wanting to go for two decades. This kind if reignited that want by my Ukrainian ex's sister is trying to talk me out if it. Says it is pretty dicey there now even by Ukrainian standards

Imagine canceling HBO because GoT is over. HBO had great programming before GoT and will have it after. HBO has been doing this for 30 years. They know what they’re doing.

I'm going to start it tonight.

I predict you're going to watch three straight hours and cry when you realize that you have to wait two more days for the next episode like the rest of us.

I watched all 3 episodes yesterday. Amazing acting. I'm more or less familiar with the entire story, but this is a real "dramatized" treat.
I am learning some new things. I'm worried it will be considered spoilers for those who didn't study it the past 30 years, so I won't post yet.

Some of the new stuff, though, might have been dramatized or modified to make the story flow.
They seem to be nailing down the important points accurately, though.
I've got "Midnight in Chernobyl" arriving Monday, so that should be a good read.

I also enjoy Silicon Valley. Although, for a short, half hour show, they need to have more episodes per season.

Sure, but there is something specific I learned about the divers that I didn't know before. Factual information because of the show coming on.

I'm on episode #3 with scant knowledge - equivalent to that of a wiki page - on Chernobyl (and nuclear energy).
Did Russia allow access to records and people involved in order to make this show? How factual is it based not he real events, or is it more based on what we know would occur should such a travesty happen?
How close were they to losing their whole damn country from this?

I think this is largely accurate.
Spoiler I think the only major inaccuracies that I've read so far were that the helicopter that crashed trying to drop the boron on the core didn't happen at the time they depicted it. It happened a little later after the smoke was reduced when it ran into some wiring from a crane. Also, the female nuclear physicist who is helping Legasov didn't exist but is rather a representation of the men and women who were a part of trying to get the meltdown under control.
Aside from that though this appears to be an extremely accurate depiction (whith some leeway to dialogue).

Episode 3 is gut wrenching - watching the burials in lead coffins covered w/ concrete. wow.
In some way I think our burial customs lends itself to some spiritual belief that one day these people (our loved ones) will rise again and even in spite of a few feet of dirt and a casket, they are "accessible." This burial really lent a sense of "permanence" to the death of the loved ones - that no matter what your beliefs, they are never coming back.
Makes me want to live as far away from a nuclear power plant as possible.

The last few minutes of e2 is one of the most viscerally intense scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie or tv show.
Incredible.
Incredible.
