I've tried looking online and got confused. I contend the black man with the cloudy eye at the trailer scene where Roland got his windshield bashed in is a different character than the one in the finale who tell Wayne and Roland what really happened to Julie and Will.

You would be correct. I'm not aware of the show saying any differently.

The show doesn't. My husband thought they were the same man. Thanks for confirming he is wrong.

I assumed they were different.

That being said I'll use this opportunity to express my disappointment with the season. It started with promise but the solved mystery just left alot to be desired.

I know it's hard to compete with Season 1, but you go from a ring of elites doing satanic rituals and sacrificing children and women, to some rich people who kidnapped a kid from white trash folks because they miss their dead kid?

What a downgrade.

And the fact that these guys spent so much of their lives trying to figure it out, only for a lawn guy to basically be the hero.

Looking back at it, the detectives caused more trouble than they solved. Maybe that's the point, that their lives were consumed by something they couldn't solve, but I wasn't a fan.

Compared to the disappointing second season, season 3 was great. There weren't a million freaking characters and nobody was horribly miscast like poor Vince Vaughn (who is a pretty decent dramatic actor. He was quite good in Freaky)

The acting and casting was great, I agree. Which is what gave me hope the first half of the season.

The story was just subpar.

The story sucked, something out of a weekly law and order. Acting was great though.

This is constant throughout every season of True Detective. I rewatched all the seasons recently and even enjoyed S2 which I hated the first go round. Hadn't watched it since it aired.

Every season has a shitty ending.

Something about Pizzolatto wanting to disappoint viewers.
