For you to do that, you'd either have to give your phone and your wife's phone to the kids so that they can buy the tickets at the theater, or you'll have to go out to the theater with both phones an hour or two before the feature, buy the tickets, then give them to the kids.

Haven't bought the card yet, but the share price of the company (HMNY) that owns 51% of Movie Pass is up over 1000% in a month so please keep buying

Well I signed up exactly one month ago today and still no card and no email from the company. I’m starting to get very aggravated.

Has anyone else waited at least this long before any contact and actually gotten their card?

Is there any sort of customer service?

Everyone has....

I signed up on 9/2 & got the email saying it was on the way on 10/6. Ended up getting it on the 10th.

So you should at least have it soon.

I just got mine yesterday. It was very easy. It took a long time to get here, but I got a free month so I'm not complaining.

I guess I do actually have one complaint. Most of the movies I want to see are no longer in the theater.

ETA: It took just over a month to get it.

Had it for over a week but finally went for the first time last night. When I checked in the first time I guess it didn't go through because the card was "declined" and I was like uhhh wtf the girl was cool about it tho and walked me through it to make sure it went through and I got in

Going tonight to see another movie.

It took me 39 days from signing up (Aug 29) to receiving my card (Oct 7). They only e-mail you when your card has shipped (Sep 30 for me).

People who signed up maybe mid-September and later should have much shorter waits since they claimed to have dramatically ramped up production of the cards.

I was supposed to use it for the first time last week but plans got delayed and I finally used it for the first time yesterday to see Blade Runner. I got to the theater, used the app to check in, and I was then prompted to activate the card. I activated and my check-in went through. I went into the AMC theater and used the kiosk to order my ticket, then slid the MoviePass card and it all worked perfectly.

FYI:
For those not familiar with how the MoviePass (MP) card works, the card itself is a Mastercard debit card. Although AMC is hostile to MP, there's nothing they can do about it, because if a business accepts Mastercard, by agreement they have to take all of them, they can't discriminate. So the way it works is that when you get within 100 yds of the theater you go into the app, choose the theater, movie, and time, and you press the "check in" button. The MP service has the ticket price data, so it then loads the MP debit card with just enough money to pay for the ticket. (If you don't buy the ticket with 30 minutes it removes the money.) You can then use the kiosk or the human line to buy the ticket and use the MP card just like a credit card (i.e., you are not entering a PIN, so it's more like a cc than a debit card).

It's so easy and cheap every time I swipe my card I expect the police to come out and arrest me for theft

here comes your push notifications, and there goes your data....

quote:

New York-based startup MoviePass plans to cash in on a night out at the movies by selling user data to Uber, Hollywood studios and restaurants close to theaters.

“You go to dinner, you might have drinks, you might use Uber or Lyft,” MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe told the FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo on “Mornings with Maria.” “So we are going to help our subscriber get to all those businesses and get discounts and benefits.”

Lowe, who previously served as president of RedBox and is the co-founding executive of Netflix (NFLX), said the movie subscription service will use mobile devices to collect data.

“Today with your phone in your pocket, people can track pretty much where you are. You log on to Facebook, they know where you are. When you log into our app, we know where you are because we automate movie subscription essentially by what theater you’re close to,” he said.

It may have been explained but why?

Even if part of the deal is that the theatre has to kick back a couple of bucks to MP per ticket, why do they care? They presumably hope to make it back on concessions and they're bringing in people that wouldn't be going, or at least wouldn't be going as often, without the pass.

Just ordered mine, hopefully it shows up in a couple weeks!

EDIT: Oh, shite I just got an email saying I should get it in 5-7 business days! They must've just gotten a new batch or something.

No. Basic features only. Once in a blue moon they might accidentally give you the option to buy something else, but I've only had that happen once in the past four and a half years.
