Honestly she spent a summer with him and he handed her over 4,000.00 in the Mid 50s which would be worth about 50,000-60,000 today.

I think most people would take that deal if it was offered to them.

Never read or saw the movie but…

The protagonist and narrator is a French literature professor who moves to New England and writes under the pseudonym Humbert Humber

Maybe adds to the confusion?
