re: How accurate do you think Titanic was to the actual events that took place?

It would have still sunk. Their combined weight would have been too much for the wood to handle.
It barely held Rose as water was still seeping up to the top of the piece of wood.

Makes me sad honestly, seeing the stuff they found on the bottom of the ocean. Shoes, ceramic dolls, eye glasses, etc
Yeah it had been a while since I'd watched it, it was a lot more sad/depressing this time around than I had remembered. Just the entire time it was sinking I'm thinking how scary it would have been, especially if you were a lower class citizen. The 2nd level rooms had like a 45% survival rate and the 3rd level was around %25. If I remember what an article I read said.
Also, the picture of the actually Molly that was posted tells me that Kathy Bates was a perfect casting decision.

The most realistic event was when they lept from the ship as it was standing straight up only to escape unscathed. Being soaking wet and sitting on a piece of wood when the temp was below 32 degrees also would have had no impact on Rose because she had layers of blubber to keep her warm.

If Kate Winslet is a fat arse then give me nothing but fat asses the rest of my life.

ONLY if they removed her life vest and placed it underneath the door, which would become increasingly less buoyant as the wood and the life vest slowly absorbed water.

This. And in that situation, when your brain is being affected by the cold, who is going to think about removing their life vest and sticking it underneath the piece of wood? Not to mention the fact that you're in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean with 2 1/2 miles of water separating you from the bottom. Removing your life vest in that situation would seem insane.

This is the best Titanic movie as far as accuracy... LINK
Cameron decided to do his Titanic movie after watching this and used a lot of the same dialogue.
Great movie...

Interesting story:
There's a small cemetery in Nova Scotia dedicated exclusively to the bodies from Titanic that washed ashore. There's a grave in that cemetery belonging to a 'J. Dawson'.
Now of course, Jack Dawson was a fictional character, and even if he wasn't, according to the movie, he wouldn't have been on the passenger manifest. But for months after the release of the film, that grave was festooned with tons of flowers...put there mostly by young girls who'd seen the movie.

Goes down with George C. Scott's Patton & Al Pacino's Lt. Col. Frank Slade as probably the greatest performances ever put on film, IMHO.

The crewmember who shot a passenger and then committed suicide scenes were not accurate, and I remember the town where the crewmember was from raising a big huff about it as he is considered a local hero for his valor during the sinking.
Mythbusters recently proved that Jack and Rose both could have fit on the wood and that it would have worked if they would have tied the lifejacket around the wood to keep it afloat while both of them were on it.
Another sidenote...Former LSU CF Michael Papajohn is in this movie!

The 1997 movie Titanic depicted a claim that one life boat returned and six people were saved from the water, but did not depict that Margaret Brown was the impetus for the return
The movie depicted a fight between her and the officer in charge of the boat because she wanted to go back.
