Victim of an apparent suicide at his home in Pelham, Alabama. His girlfriend was present in the home at the time of the fatal shooting. He had been serving in the 101st Airborne Division. So sad.

Tumlin was reportedly serving in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell and also worked other jobs, like repairing telephone lines, TMZ reported.
Not sure if he had seen combat, but sounds like it might have been PTSD.

May not necessarily be something he acquired after enlistment.
A lot of these guys hide prior mental health problems. First and foremost, they never seek help because psychiatric problems are causes to refuse enlistment. So many servicemen go into the military with pre-existing psychiatric problems and refuse to seek help for fear of being denied re-enlistment.

A lot of us refuse help for psychiatric problems while in the service due to the impact it will have on the mission.

Same basic point.
I know a lot of guys who went in because basic behavioral problems either tanked their high school GPA or precluded them from working a normal civilian job.
Lots of obvious bipolar, anxiety, or other psychiatric illnesses. But none had sought psychiatric care, and they were good about hiding it from their recruiter.
They did 4 years of service and thrived because it provided an outlet and the comradery with their fellows gave them a coping mechanism.
But then they decide to separate and return to civilian life, having forgot how hard it was for them when they left. They still find it hard to form new friendships or adapt to civilian life.
